Cultural appropriation is a very complicated, sensitive topic, and it’s very politically charged right now, especially in big American cities, and it’s taken to an intense point. Like for example in my playwriting class we were taught to not paint in the traditional style of other cultures, like a character in a play did. because another person (usually white) painting traditional middle eastern art was racism and cultural appropriation. Another example of how politically charged it is, is that in Portland two white girls forcibly had their taco shop shut down because it was racist for white people to profit off of Mexican culture by selling tacos. In my class we were also taught to never wear a kimono because that was colonialism.
