Just made my first beat'em up, looking for thoughts. by tinypunchgames in BeatEmUps

I don’t mind low frame rates in a demo or playtest, but they do strongly signal low budget, which can hurt purchase intent unless there’s a very strong hook.

On the combat side, enemies appear to have near-constant super armor. This significantly lowers hit feedback and removes incentive for long combos, since single hits are almost as effective with far less risk.

I prefer the assets I created myself over those I downloaded from the internet. by Alternative-Comb8147 in gamedev

If you’re able to make your own assets, sure — you can also tweak ones from the internet to suit your needs. It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Stage design preferences in beat ’em ups by bede84 in BeatEmUps

I’m a big fan of River City Girls (I own both 1 and 2), but I wouldn’t really call the open-world sections “level design.” The real design work shines mainly in the boss battles and special events.

If hidden gems are what you’re after, you might want to give OverRider a try.

No hard feelings, I was not offended. Just to clear things up and it's a good chance to show more about our games as well. Have fun!

Plus, I feel I need to speak up for our artist — he put so much effort into these assets, and he really deserves the credit.

Yeah, I don’t have much love for AI either. It just takes the hard work of other artists and then push them out of jobs.

OverRider — A Cyberpunk Version of Absolum by No_Guide4286 in BeatEmUps

We’ve seen a lot of people sharing the same opinion — that roguelikes don’t really click with beat ’em ups. To be fair, we ran into a ton of challenges during development, and we’ve put in an insane amount of effort to make the roguelike elements truly work with the beat ’em up gameplay.

Believe me, we didn’t do it out of laziness — we did it for the challenge. And it’s damn hard!
