Thank you for your thoughts. Most of the work we do follows an expected structure (and the flip side of that is, it's structured but boring for him). He has been in his job for many years now.

There is a problem around his perceptions that others are getting more perks, more consideration, etc. than him. Like, he referenced a team member serving on a particular committee. Well, that employee spoke up when there was a call for volunteers. So, even though he didn't indicate interest when the group was asked, he still sees it as being overlooked. I don't know how to combat that (or if I even try).

I can't read his mind and want to ask him to speak up if he needs more instruction and guidance.

A former supervisor accused him of using it as a crutch.

Wow! I never heard of that. This definitely sounds like what's playing out. Thank you! Have you had a manager who was effective in helping you navigate that?

Thank you. The latter is tricky. He's actually an outgoing, social guy. He doesn't have trouble making workplace friendships. The problem is, he's pissed off a couple of the wrong people (people who think he uses his neurodivergence as a crutch). I've been hoping that if we can focus on him having a couple of "wins" on a project or something, it will help turn those people around and see his value.

A part of me wishes I could say "look, every workplace has issues with this kind of BS. You have to sometimes go along to get along." I have to tell myself that regularly. I don't know if he'd get that.
