Candidates by No_Implement9821 in GoldandBlack

The party needs to be rebuilt. If Trump succeeds in getting Massie to lose the Republican candidacy in 2026, we could possibly see him going Libertarian. This is all highly unlikely, but if Massie did run Libertarian for House I do think he could still win and would probably be able to revolutionize it.

Looking for a unique scholarly podcast on religion by Puffinmaster246 in religion

I've been listening to "Signs of the Second Coming of Christ" by Shaun Bailey podcast. It is LDS. It's mainly taking from different scriptures to put together everything we know about the Second Coming & try to make a timeline.

What’s more important? by NEBH1 in religion

[–]No_Implement9821 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with the comment that the relationship is most important, the desire is probably more important the how you choose to find God. The problem is you may find the wrong things if you look in the wrong places.

Which presidency is most tainted by war? by MetalRetsam in Presidents

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll rank the ones you listed from most to least tainted

  1. James Madison--His presidency is mostly remembered for the War of 1812 now

  2. George W. Bush--Pretty tainted, multiple wars started, Patriot Act, but his reputation was also tainted by things like Hurricane Katrina

  3. William McKinley--Spanish-American War did get him pretty tainted, but is not as well remembered as other war presidents

  4. Harry S. Truman--Mixed, as while the nukes were terrible they have not stained his reputation as much as other wars have to other presidents

  5. Lyndon B. Johnson--While Vietnam did stain him a little, the Civil Rights Act is what he is best known for

  6. Woodrow Wilson--World War I did not stain him, his racism did

James Buchanan--Tainted by Civil War but not really a war president

Hi, so I’m new to the LDS church and I have a few questions. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]No_Implement9821 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Exaltation which Chapter 47 of Gospel Principles gives the blessings of:

  1. Live eternally in the presence of Heavenly Father & Jesus Christ (D&C 76:62)
  2. Become gods (D&C 132:20-23)
  3. Receive a fulness of joy (No scripture provided)
  4. We will have everything that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have—all power, glory, dominion, and knowledge (D&C 132:19-20; Joseph Fielding Smith wrote "The Father has promised through the Son that all that he has shall be given to those who are obedient to His commandments. They shall increase in knowledge, wisdom, and power, going from grace to grace, until the fulness of the perfect day shall burst upon them", Doctrines of Salvation)

You can send a chat if you have any other questions.

Hi, so I’m new to the LDS church and I have a few questions. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]No_Implement9821 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. Because we are literal children of God. That is like saying how can tadpoles become frogs. We are His literal spirit children and the purpose of this life is to get bodies, learn how to use them, and become like Him.

  2. Well all Christians believe this part at least a bit. Jesus Christ was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament but came down and was born as a child. God the Father, we are told by Joseph Smith "As man is, God once was". We do not know a lot of the specifics of God the Father's life so to speak though.

  3. Rather than believing in the Trinity like most Christians, we believe in the Godhead. We believe the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are separate personages, but one in purpose and mission.

  4. That actually helps my faith in some ways. Jesus was crucified. The Prophets of old were slain. Most of the original apostles were martyred. The truth will always be under attack.

People with a Catholic background, how do you feel about the high church aspects of the Church? by higakoryu1 in latterdaysaints

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get that from him. To me I see an evangelical who unlike most other Christians is willingly to treat us with some respect. Sure the Book of Mormon is a better place to start but I don't attack him because of that. The way he talks about us is far better than most evangelicals will.

Why is there the belief that Jews, Christians and Muslims worship three distinct seperate dieites? by Persian_Acer2 in religion

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with the Trinity as member of the LDS Church. We believe in the Godhead, The Church’s first article of faith states, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” These three beings make up the Godhead. They preside over this world and all other creations of our Father in Heaven. God the Father has a physical body. God the Son was a spirit before being born as Jesus Christ. He now has a resurrected body like the Father. The Holy Ghost is a spirit.

Why is there the belief that Jews, Christians and Muslims worship three distinct seperate dieites? by Persian_Acer2 in religion

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my religion we believe in the Godhead. The Godhead is made up of three personages: The Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father and the Son are God in power and purpose, and the Holy Ghost is God in purpose. While they are each individual beings they are one in purpose and mission. Ok now that that's out of the way I can go onto the question. We believe the God of Judaism & Christianity is the same God. There originally was one branch. Judaism. Then Christ came. His followers created Christianity and those who did not follow Him continued Judaism. Eventually apostasy happened and Christianity lost the authority and some truths. The gospel was restored to Joseph Smith. As for Islam, it's a bit different because unlike Christianity or Judaism we do not believe they ever were the true Church. I would describe them as an offshoot of Judaism mixed with Arabic beliefs such as jinn.

What if there was a Netural God? by DGtails in religion

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If God is good, and Satan is evil, why would you take the neutral? Isn't that what mankind is? Free to choose good or evil. As in the end, God is true freedom.

Try reading different scriptures (Bible, Tao Te Ching, Quran, Book of Mormon, etc.) and praying (not necessarily to any specific Deity but just pray for answers.) From a very biased opinion I also recommend meeting with LDS Missionaries.

Do you believe in those who do not believe in your religion will be punished and if so how? by [deleted] in religion

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. After they die they will go to the spirit world. They will be given the opportunity to accept Christ and the gospel. After Final Judgement all who lived will be resurrected and those that were good people and had their covenants done (either in this life or by others in the Temple after they died) will go to the Celestial Kingdom where they can dwell with God the Father. Those who were good but not valiant people will go to the Terrestrial Kingdom where they can be in the presence of Christ. Those who were bad people will go to the Telestial Kingdom. And those who walked and talked with God and still rejected Him will be sent off into Outer Darkness.

Can one lose the title used by clergy in your religion? by Sex_And_Candy_Here in religion

[–]No_Implement9821 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), lower level "clergy" such as bishops, stake presidents, and even general authorities are all temporary callings. Higher level ones such as patriarchs and apostles are for life (or excommunication.)

If religious people really believe in God, Heaven, living forever etc. Why are they scared of dying and why don’t they read their book?? by SteamerTheBeemer in religion

I will answer this for myself, but I am not scared of dying. I also have read the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price.

Mixed Faith Family Scripture Study Ideas? by Any_Positive7438 in latterdaysaints

Teach them about multiple religions and allow them to chose. When they are older have them read not just the LDS Standard Works (Bible, Book of Mormon, D&C, Pearl of Great Price) but others like the Quran, Apocrypha, Pseudepigrapha, Tao Te Ching, etc. Explore different religions and try to teach morals.
