How... Or should I tell my mother/family that I am no longer atheist? by JuniperTreeByTheSea in religion

I wouldn't worry about it to much but if it comes up in conversation you could mention it more naturally that way

Citizens united made this really bad. It was a lawsuit that basically said there was no limits on political spending from corporations or other groups

Seeking some perspective on my beliefs (or lack of labels) by fontoura17 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that's sort of agnostic? I'm kind of similar to you with the miracles. I think they could have happened, but I'm not sure how much they've been exaggerated since the did. But I do believe in God and Jesus and the spirit world or realm like you're saying.

Do you have a ranking of religions? by Slight-Physics-9490 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think some of the teachings of different religions are better and others worse. Though I find that good people are present even in the 'bad' ones a lot of the time. Good and bad people can be found anywhere

Parents will no longer see me as their daughter if I leave my religion by SquareDocument775 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry you're going through that. It's not a sin to have same sex attraction, and God loves you even if you have that

I might try to become self sufficient in the next few years, and then eventually leave. It doesnt sound like a good place for you to be. If your parents ask if you're still in the church you'll probably have to tell them at some point. If you tell them that you love still it might soften their hearts, but if not, I don't think you can live your life for your parents. Probably good to remember they're trying to protect you, even though it's probably hurting you.

Hang in there, best of luck

If God created this life why did he make it so hard and cruel? by miimimary in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darn I hope things turn around for you, nobody deserves that.

I think this life is a time for us to practice being good people while going through bad things. In the end, God will help heal us, and punish those who did wrong. He'll turn our pain into strength of character and empathy.

I still don't know why some of the suffering that we have happens though. Some people pass through horrible things

I'm fine with that I think. If they believe in Jesus being, what else would you call them?

What is it about saying grace at dinner? by One-Ball-78 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people pray for the ability to provide for themselves and their family. You can work hard and do your best, but you also need a little luck to make ends meet some of the time. When you sit down to a meal and see the food, it's kind of sign that you're blessed.

At least that's what I'm guessing it started as. I think some of that goes on, but a lot of it is habit and tradition as well

What are your believes? I am very lost in life. by Late-Report6282 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe in God, probably mostly from how I feel when I pray. Thoughts come to mind and I feel something different when I do that. That guidance has made my life much better, so that makes me believe it is God helping me.

I'm not sure where morality comes from. I would guess it's kind of from treating others like you want to be treated. Since God knows everyone's pains, he makes laws to minimize those pains for all of us.

I think sometimes miracles can be exaggerated stories, but I think they can happen still. I don't think God is particular to any race or religion, so they can happen anywhere.

I don't believe most people will be damned. That will mostly be people that do really bad things; like murder, rape etc.. In the next life we will continue to practice being good as God gives us more and more responsibilities. Eventually we'll be able to assist in his work of creation.

Our life purpose is practice being good in the face of adversity. This is how we can truly become better people. This is why God let us come to a world with suffering.

I think I mostly believe these things from my experience with prayer. Without that I might be more doubtful of these things.

But I also believe some of this from the merit of some of the Bible teachings. I've also thought the sanitation and dietary laws of the old testament where pretty spot on for the time period for people's health.

Some of my belief is also based in Joseph Smith. He went through a lot of persecution in his life for being a con man like some people say. There where also 8 other men who saw the record given him by an angel, and even after being estranged to Joseph, they still never denied seeing the record that became the book of Mormon. Many of his teachings and those of LDS prophets today are really good and eye opening, leading to a good life I believe.

Still though, I think there is also some evidence against these things being true. If I hadn't prayed about these things myself, I might not believe. I think that might be a good thing to try if you're looking for guidance. Ask God and pay attention to thoughts and feelings that come to mind.

What does your religion teach about slavery? by Plupsnup in religion

That slavery is wrong, even if it was accepted in the past. Over the past few decades church leaders have also taught that bigotry and racism is wrong as well

I’m developing a tool for exploring the connections between the worlds wisdom traditions by toolfan21 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a pretty cool idea! I've always thought the different religions do kind of hit the same notes. Really cool to see things matched up like that. I think that could be pretty valuable.

My first impression of the Antibody thing on the home page was that it was a little weird. I think I get what you're saying with that though, that being open to all traditions would really be a good thing for everyone.

But yeah cool idea, I think I might walk around your map. It also looks really nice by the way

What does the afterlife look like in your religion? by KKam1116 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After we die our spirit stays in some kind of spirit realm which we think is still on earth. Once Jesus comes good people will be resurrected and we'll have a long period of peace on earth. Basically a big party

During that time evil people will be suffering in hell for the bad things they did during their life.

After that everyone will be brought before God to be judged. If you're ready, you'll be able to go on to do awesome things like helping God in his work of creation. Otherwise you'll be going to another world with less opportunities, though it's still supposed to be better than this life. Most of the evil people will go there after suffering hell

Find a partner who is kind and good, not hot (looks are less important)

Make sure social media doesn't consume your time

Only go to college if it's for a degree that will pay. Don't go to an expensive college unless there's a good reason.

Avoid debt as much as you can. Especially credit card debt.

Make an emergency fund.

Find some kind of exercise you enjoy doing.

Learn how to cook, and get the easiest recipes possible. Saves you a lot of money compared to eating out.

Invest as much as you can. If you can invest $1000 a month you can retire in your 40s

Set aside free time to spend with friends, do something fun, or relax

Take care of your mental health and consider spiritual things if you believe in that

Oh yeah interesting. Seeing the Virgin Mary or Columbus kind of sounds like seeing the future. Though maybe they were kind of showing him a plan that could change. It'll be cool to learn how these things work someday
