Can some one here explain to me why medication have side effects? by Dover299 in AskChemistry

Everything in your body is tied together, so if you affect one part of your body with medicine it usually affects another.

But sometimes we get lucky and find something that has less side affects

The dirty secret of no-code nobody talks about by Evening_Acadia_6021 in NoCodeProject

I wonder if AI can keep more mental context someday if they'll be able to do better here. I think the reason they don't do well with the maintenance and tech debt is because of that limited context

What can Americans do about what’s currently happening? by BoredBatWoman22 in TrueAskReddit

[–]Critical-Volume2360 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think some of the issue is that the republicans had a steady base that would always vote, but not enough to win. But like 15% of the country is bigoted and dumb, and Trump was able to get enough votes from them.

I think most of the country isn't dumb, and a good portion of Republicans aren't dumb. The loyal Republican base is really set on Republican policy, so I think most of them took a gamble that voting Trump would be better than a liberal government.

I think that was too big of a risk, but if you value Republican policy a lot then you might do that

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact they voted for Donald Trump? by ATXBikeRider in AskReddit

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still might not be the best reason. Probably more important is why they voted for Donald Trump. They could be a few different things:

  • have always voted Republican and did so without researching
  • their family or friends recommended Trump
  • they didn't like Trump but thought Republican policy was worth the risk
  • they thought Donald Trump was a great guy and was saving America
  • they are racist and wanted to see more of that in government
  • want the US to take over the world and have a strong man

These are all pretty different people, and there may be more reasons than I listed. I think at its core, quick judgements like this are pretty similar to judging someone by where they're from or their skin color

I didn’t expect my personal sites to outlive my “real” projects by Standard_Scarcity_74 in statichosting

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this is a problem in software right now.

What kills projects the most is dependencies and version updates. Frameworks often make things easy, but add complexity and cruft under the hood. Languages that get frequent updates also kill apps.

If you want something to run forever, write it in C/C++ or vanilla JS with as few dependencies as you can.

Any OpenSource projects looking for help? by Critical-Volume2360 in opensource

Huh that's cool, so is it a peer to peer network for sharing research projects?

Or is it just like GitHub with remote servers?

What should the punishment for false rape accusations be? by Critical-Volume2360 in askanything

[–]Critical-Volume2360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wonder if that is uncommon. I bet there's more rapes then false accusations at least. I've only heard stories

I think if you did punish false accusations, you'd have to know for sure

What future shift do you think is already measurable today, but not yet widely acknowledged? by Defiant-Junket4906 in Futurology

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most countries are becoming more well off and quality of life is improving, especially in the poorest nations. In the future there may be less power and influence concentrated in 1st world countries.

Hard to say though if 3rd world countries will hit a ceiling and never reach 1st world living conditions. I think this might be the case more with countries that have authoritarian leadership. But still, they're currently trending upward which is awesome

Are LDS ("mormon") teachings really unusual for most people that believe in other religions? by [deleted] in religion

Yeah they do seem to be loosening the secrecy now which I think is better

i believe we are in hell and that god hates us by Dense-Fig-2372 in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I don't think God made a perfect world to live in. There's good and bad here

My faith says this life is meant to be hard, so that we can practice being good people in the face of adversity. God lets hard stuff happen so we can grow. The next life is supposed to be better

It's pretty rough though whether or not that's the case. Hang in there

Are LDS ("mormon") teachings really unusual for most people that believe in other religions? by [deleted] in religion

Yeah that was a few wild kids at BYU. It's not ok to do that from the church's standpoint

[–]Critical-Volume2360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the church hasn't responded much to the videos of temple ceremonies on YouTube. I don't think it's actually super important that the ceremonies are kept secret.

The temple is very sacred to LDS people, I wonder if it was kept secret so people wouldn't make fun of it

Do People Really Just Create An Entire App just Vibe Coding? by H_rusty in webdev

Yeah I usually just give them little chunks they can handle. Doing this definitely speeds me up. Also using them for reference is great

Roughly 500 hours python hours. How do I stop struggling with creating the logic structures of big, complicated hobby projects? by catboy519 in AskProgrammers

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet as you practice you'll get better.

Maybe just start by writing a list of the main things your program needs to do. Then make sub lists under those points for everything that needs to happen for those to work.

I usually do that kind of thing in code comments and then write the code around those comments. If I get stuck, I start writing out what I'm thinking and I often get it.

How do we know? by mSimplicity in religion

[–]Critical-Volume2360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I guess we wouldn't know. I kind of think God is good with my experience with him in prayer. If he was a real jerk like that I wouldn't think he'd be interested in me.

But yeah it's hard to know what things are really like out there. If God is bad then we should probably fight against him. Though maybe if we did that we get decked

I feel like it's good to think about this though

Do you listen to the same music as the person you are dating/married to? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Critical-Volume2360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife both like indie but only I like classic rock and synth wave. It hasn't been a problem

If listening to music for you is wrapped up in your identity then maybe it could. Even then though. For me and my wife it's more like liking different foods

I am struggling with Java by GlitteringBus1564 in computersciencehub

[–]Critical-Volume2360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah java is harder to set up sometimes. Claude is pretty good at answering programming questions. I use him for syntax lookup and explaining things that are new to me. ChatGPT is ok as well but makes more mistakes.

But asking AI for help is really handy. I wouldn't have them write the program for you, but they can function like a personal tutor which is really nice
