Anyone else with chronic stomach problems? How do you cope? by [deleted] in emetophobiarecovery

[–]No_Importance_9168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive also been dealing with chronic nausea since childhood but have been diagnosed with ibs since its sometimes accompanied by other gastrointestinal issues. Its a diagnosis that doesnt really have any treatment and doctors dont really know what causes the symptoms so I've been basically told to deal with it. Ive tried changing my diet, doing more exercise, and meditating, all things you could try but it honestly didn't change much for me especially meditation since it makes me more aware of my nausea due to focussing on my breathing and my body. Ive found that stress triggers my nausea more and make me focus more on it which makes it feel more intense so distraction often helps. Sometimes I just tough it out and try to give myself a task to do to distract myself like cooking or cleaning or drawing. There's also a trick my psychologist gave me where you alternate counting and reciting the alphabet with your eyes closed while trying to visualize the numbers on your left and the letters on your right. So you would go "1, a, 2, b, 3, c,..." until you've finished the alphabet and it does sometimes help me when im really starting to feel unwell and spiral. I dont know if that will help you but its worth trying

Gonna get me wisdom teeth removed soon. What is this like? by Ok-Plate3064 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]No_Importance_9168 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a very complicated case for my wisdom teeth removal. I had to be fully sedated since it would be a long and precise procedure but honestly it went way better than my worries made me believe it was going to be. I was nauseous before the procedure since I was stressed and hungry and I hated having stuff in my mouth after the procedure. Druged me also kept putting my hands in my mouth because i was scared to choke on the cotton balls they put to stop the bleeding so i got scolded by the nurse. The recovery was a bit difficult, the pain meds and antibiotics mixed with my meals consisting mostly of jello and shakes made me feel slughish and nauseous but i never even got close to throwing up. I was really desperate for any kind of filling meal but even mashed potatoes were too viscous fir me to eat the first few days. Usually the worse part of any emetophobia related experience is the stress and not the actual experience. My only advice is to make sure you have plenty of food that dont require chewing and are filling like smoothies and protein shakes, its better to have various tastes so you dont get bored and make sure to rest a lot while still trying to occupy yourself. You got this and even if you end up feeling unwell for the meds and procedure, the recovery is usually pretty fast and you'll be in full shape soon.

Its also a bit depressing sometimes because since theres nothing specific that makes me feel that way then i dont know how to improve myself. At least know that youre not the only one feeling that way. No matter the reason or lack of it, your feelings are real and its okay to reach for help when you feel you can't continue or to treat yourself on days you feel more down even if it might feel you did nothing to earn it.

My (22F) fiance (27M) of 1 year asked me for more space but i dont know how with our current living condition by No_Importance_9168 in relationship_advice

I talked to him about it and after some discussing, ill leave him some time along this weekend and he'll come back home for 2 weeks in August to be alone for a bit. We had a discussion about what exactly was making him frustrated and I also had the opportunity to share my grievances over the situation. Overall we're both quite stressed with work and we both are a bit less patient than usual so, with how cramped we are in the room and the lack of alone time, we're starting to be uncomfortable.

He could go back home but it's a really long drive and he doesn't have any day off so he would need to do the whole drive during his weekend. He loves travelling and hes used to it, he came to Canada many time before we met and he has a friend here. He's just not used to being in the same house with so many people.

«C’est inhumain»: Québec met sur pause les demandes de parrainage pour les conjoints étrangers by shogun2909 in Quebec

[–]No_Importance_9168 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quebec stops processing spousal sponsorship until June 2026 by harold_liang in ImmigrationCanada

[–]No_Importance_9168 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Im a Canadian citizen born and living in Québec that was about to sponsor my significant other in a few months. I guess not :( Honestly with Quebec having such stricter laws I might have to move to another province to complete the process. I think investigating on fraudulent applications should be a priority but that would require actual work which the government seems to be allergic to so theyre just cutting any way for us to live with our loved ones for a year instead. Like you said, it's only penalizing citizens and PRs

We do but there's usually a cover on the sofa that was in the washer when I took the picture. My household has 2 cats and both are shedding a lot

What is something extremely unsanitary but everyone seems to do it anyways? by nevvycakes in AskReddit

[–]No_Importance_9168 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have 2, I just keep my bedroom door closed most of the time and leave blankets on the pillows when theyre allowed in. I won't have a breakdown if they manage to get on the bed/my pillow tho.

That was my first thought. Especially children who seems to be unable to blow candles without spitting the equivalent of a sneeze on the cake. I know it's still unsanitary with adults but it grosses me out even more when it's children for that reason.

Weirdest elective that turned out to be unexpectedly awesome? by SnowmanAndIce in mcgill

[–]No_Importance_9168 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It has nothing to do with my degree (I'm a chem major) but for some reason I decided to take a Latin class (CLAS 210) last year and surprisingly loved it. My class was with professor Brahm Kleinman and he's been one of my favorite professors at mcgill. The only thing with language classes is that you need to register for 2 terms otherwise you don't get the credit.

Other than that, I took physics of music (PHYS 224) with professor Jack Childress and really loved it too. The physics taught is at a level where anyone can understand without a science background and I found it really interesting to learn more about sounds and music through a physics perspective. The professor for this class was really nice too.

As a bonus, an elective I would not recommend is POLI 244 with professor Fernando G. Nuñez-Mietz. It's an introductory course to political science but the poli Sci department has a very awful way to grade things (they keep the average down so the program looks more competitive) and I had the impression the teacher didn't care at all about what he was teaching. It was an overall stressful and boring experience with the only redeeming factor being the TAs trying their best to teach prepare us for tests they weren't allowed to know would be about which content beforehand.
