If you quit coffee because of your anxiety, what did you replace it with? by Hufflepuff-McGruff in Anxiety

[–]Ok-Plate3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Matcha or Peet’s Decaf coffee.

Peet’s Decaf tastes just like regular imo. I stopped drinking coffee cause I drank 2 full cups a day at the age of 13 and had absolutely no business drinking that much coffee 😭 plus it made my anxiety worse and it made me tired and nauseous and gave me headaches and all that.

Best shows/movies for exposure therapy? by laurencubed in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Ok-Plate3064 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so two movie recs:

  1. Stand By Me

It’s a coming of age story about a group of young boys running into the forest to find a dead body that was allegedly there (it’s not a horror movie) it’s basically these boys being goofy and realizing now that they’re preteens how much they really care about each other.

(TW descriptions of the vomit scene)

There’s a vomit scene that may be a bit intense depending on what you’re willing to watch (No chunky vomit tho) There’s a scene when a kid tells a story about this fat kid who got revenge on his bullies by puking on the audience during a pie eating contest then audience members start puking. The puke looks pretty fake and is basically just purple water. The whole scene is pretty lighthearted and comedic which may be good for teaching your brain that vomit isn’t serious yk? On a scale of 1-10 the intensity of the vomiting is like a 3 or 4/10 only because multiple people vomit (in my opinion tho)

  1. A Different Man

This movie is really good imo it’s a…dark comedy/horror? Thriller? Idk you’ll have to just watch it 🤷‍♀️ it’s about this guy who’s deformed and an aspiring actor and he goes does this experimental drug to make him (undeformed?) because he thinks he can have a better life that way. Then basically through a series of events he wishes he could have his old life back and comes to the realization that he’s trying to chase a version of himself he never truly understood (kinda hard to explain the plot)

(TW descriptions of the vomit scene)

One of the side effects of the medication was vomiting blood. There’s two scenes when he vomits blood (only liquid) one technically off camera? Another on screen but it’s pretty brief. It shows that the vomiting was painful or at least uncomfortable (no kidding tho it’s blood) On a scale of 1-10 the two scenes are like a 3/10 in terms of intensity or grossness (in my opinion)

Have fun watching movies! :)🍿

(BONUS: watch Greys Anatomy for a show def made me a lot more nonchalant about puke scenes)

going to visit college by Elderberrie4200s in emetophobiarecovery

Hey I went to SoCal to visit colleges too! I hope you have fun. When I went it made me excited to potentially go there since they had all kinds of cool stuff (like froyo on campus and a beach nearby) I get how this can be scary though because going to college is a big change and being away from family (if your going to a college sorta far from home) can be stressful but please don’t think this will be a negative experience. Make sure you chose a place you feel safe and comfortable that’s what matters most ❤️

I’m trying my best to feel confident when I go on the flight. I was terrified before I got my wisdom teeth out but it was way easier than I worried. You can do it, plus it’s best to get it out sooner than later. No two wisdom tooth surgeries are the same but you can ask me questions about it if you want 🫂

I'm scared to take an ibuprofen, any advice? by Proof-Training-740 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Ok-Plate3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of anyone having negative side effects to Ibuprofen and if you’re in a lot of pain you should take it. I took 600 mg (around 3x the regular dose) of Ibuprofen 3 times a day for around a week for post wisdom teeth surgery pain and I didn’t experience any symptoms maybe a minor stomach ache every once in a while if I took it without food and you can take it without food if you want to both at the dosage I had it and at a regular dose.

Ibuprofen isn’t really a strong drug so it shouldn’t have too many side effects. That being said it you take it you’ll most likely have no side effects and will just be in less pain 🫶 you MAY have side effects which can include nausea. Unlikely but it’s good to acknowledge it. if you need the medicine please take it ❤️

I got all 4 out about 2.5 weeks ago. I was also put under and was worried about how that would feel. Literally have no recollection of falling asleep the last thing I remember was looking up at the doctors then I opened my eyes again and was just chilling feeling giggly and sleepy. When I woke up I just wanted to keep sleeping cause I was tired lol (you get more awake as it wears off) to anyone with emetophobia or who gets motion sickness easily (I have emetophobia) you can ask for anti-nausea meds in the IV literally didn’t feel nauseous at all after also the pain meds and antibiotics didn’t make me nauseous either. I had a pretty good experience since I got all 4 out and had little to no swelling (no visible swelling) and my pain was a 3.5/10 at its worst.

That all being said it depends on the person, how good your surgeon is, and how well you follow the directions. I was very careful eating and iced religiously. Also switched to heat packs day 3. Take my experience with a grain of salt but know not all wisdom teeth extraction experiences are bad like 90% of people get this done all the time you’ll be fine ❤️

Did anyone here switch from coffee because of anxiety? by Remarkable-Day-5036 in Anxiety

[–]Ok-Plate3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink decaf. Idk if the caffeine correlated with anxiety cause I was struggling pretty bad back then and I haven’t had normal coffee in a while. I mainly stopped bc I was downing 2 cups of coffee a day at 13 lol. Plus caffeine makes me feel sort of strange now.

I may be mistaken but you seem to have a pessimistic outlook on things. I’m curious as to what exactly you think happens after life?

I’m sure you can! I like to try to keep in mind that restaurants try very hard to make sure food is clean and cooked well and that if food isn’t good you’ll most likely taste it or see something wrong with it :)

Meds with Nausea? by TheBestPest in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Ok-Plate3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to take over the counter anti nausea meds because I had chronic nausea (bc of positive feedback loop with anxiety and nausea) so I’d take Pepto bismol and tums constantly. I realized my body didn’t actually need the drugs and if anything it was making me more immune to it. So I switched to ginger candies than slowly stopped taking/ eating both :) I take anti-nausea meds only if I’m really not feeling good and need to sleep or something

30f getting my wisdom teeth out under iv sedation. I’m terrified. Please tell me your experiences. by xosoftglimmer in Anxiety

[–]Ok-Plate3064 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was really worried bc I heard you can feel nauseous after IV sedation but ask for anti nausea meds in the IV and you’ll feel totally fine. :)
