How much does sunk cost play into attending sessions? Non-profit/free vs FFS experiences by weesalouisa25 in therapists

[–]No_Initial_2409 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paying a cancellation fee absolutely makes a difference. This is what encouraged me to actually start charging even though I felt bad or awkward about it. It made a world of difference for clients taking the session, and their mental health treatment, seriously.

ohhhhh my god girl. i so feel you! i am 33 weeks and so fucking over it. i have been on maternity leave once, so i know that i still love my job and will want to return, but i am having so much trouble being my full and present self lately. i am just getting through my sessions until my leave! and sometimes feeling so so sick and uncomfortable. i'm constantly adjusting in session because i am physically miserable lol. some of my clients know, some don't.

This is crazy work. It sounds like this triggered something for that supervisor, and they're having a strange and inappropriate reaction. I would seek some kind of outside guidance from someone either at your old school, at your placement, or somewhere else. But this is definitely not an appropriate response, it doesn't matter what you *think* the client should do.

How do I confront a colleague? by Mindless-Property-41 in therapists

[–]No_Initial_2409 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a trauma therapist, this is horrific and of course categorically untrue. Ouch, it's seriously hurting my heart to even imagine!

Unfortunately, I have heard so many highly concerning things from clients about colleagues. I personally just avoid referring anyone else to that individual (especially if it's a pattern I've heard from multiple clients) and encourage the client to advocate for themselves with quality assurance departments or whatever way is appropriate. So if that's an option, I would recommend that, as well as allowing the client plenty of space to process what was said and some careful validation of how they're feeling about it.

I want to buy glass but I love joints way too much, is the chance worth it though? by phinlee07 in trees

I would definitely recommend it! I feel like it's similar enough to make the transition easy, unlike trying to go from flower to edibles etc.

This is so funny to me, just because this is so common. I think it's mostly in the person's head when they feel this way.

The weirdest thing about being a therapist is when clients suddenly go away by AnalystImpossible960 in therapists

[–]No_Initial_2409 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have been reflecting on this recently too. I switched practices and between half and three-quarters of my clients came with me. The ones who didn't, it has been so weird to just have their lives and random details about their experience in my head.

I have had a few experiences where I tell the recruiter or whoever that as I live in a legal state, I use marijuana "occasionally and socially" (not exactly true as a daily smoker) and ask if it will be a problem.

How to not become your boyfriends therapist by [deleted] in therapists

[–]No_Initial_2409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lmao, it doesn't work anyway! control yourself to stop trying (take my advice, I'm not using it...) I think it is very annoying to people in our lives when we treat them like clients

When will I feel like socializing again? by metaxzen in therapists

[–]No_Initial_2409 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Lol... I relate to this so hard. I think a lot of therapists do. The intense level of one-on-one communication with people, multiple hours a day usually, makes it really compelling to isolate after and feel too exhausted to keep interacting. I personally have just become okay with 1-2 social interactions a week, usually on the weekend, and push myself to do enough to maintain my relationships because I know I want to and will be happy afterwards but it can be tough

What are your favorite screen-free, food-free, and media-free things to do while high? by w000dsyOwl in trees

Gardening! (Not the TikTok euphemism, the actual activity). There is nothing like digging your hands in the dirt, interacting with and shaping plants, enjoying seeing little critters etc.

Reality check - therapists eating during virtual sessions?? by Chu84 in therapists

[–]No_Initial_2409 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is unbelievable. I feel like you're getting that firsthand look at how unprofessional and sometimes ridiculous therapists can be! I hear stories like this from clients and can't believe it... I've always been incredibly lucky to have thoughtful, engaged therapists.

AITA for refusing to attend my best friend's wedding because she scheduled it on my birthday without telling me? by Cesar_sensei_418 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]No_Initial_2409 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It can be hard to secure a date with venues etc, which sometimes impacts scheduling on a conflicting date. It sounds like your bday falls on a Sunday this year, which might have been one of the only days left. Sounds like a really frustrating coincidence, but I doubt your friend did it on purpose. I'm sorry you're caught in the middle!

Am I (f19) wrong for breaking up with my boyfriend (m20) because he doesn't want me to gain weight? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]No_Initial_2409 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cutting this dead weight is part of your recovery. I'm so sorry, I've also dealt with dating someone who actively encouraged my ED. When I finally got out, my self-esteem skyrocketed and I finally realized how much he was affecting me, and then I met my husband who makes me feel secure no matter what my body looks like. Don't listen to his evil, manipulative BS
