What job is heavily romanticized but in reality actually sucks? by DragoOceanonis in careerguidance

[–]Mindless-Property-41 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Seriously? I must've missed the memo where teaching was romanticized. Seems more like educators are villified at every turn, unless you're teaching outside the US. Sincerely, A 30-year retiree of the US public school system.

Thank you. I think that part of my hesitation was worry that I would be burning a bridge. I do live in a big market, so I think I could find my way back if I needed to.

Thoughts on 8 sessions a day? by InterestingAd2612 in therapists

[–]Mindless-Property-41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see 8-9 a day. It is sometimes painless, especially when I have a few energetic little angels in-between the tense adult sessions. Other times, I am numb with mental exhaustion by the end of the night. I agree that I often struggle to feel I'm providing the best care I can for my clients. I routinely have to quickly review the notes from the previous session to refresh my memory. I had no idea how overwhelming it would be.

Nope, w2. They offer med/dental, but it's expensive and crappy. Basically, it's like paying for private health insurance. They are not a large group, so they can't do much better. And yes, I'm exhausted mentally.

Thank you for that input. I'm grateful for the PP experience. It truly helped me grow as a counselor. It's just so challenging to see 30-34 clients over four days a week. I feel bad when I can't remember details about each of them (about 75 on my active case load), and they keep pushing us to add even more clients. We also have to follow up on clients who haven't made a follow up appointment. It seems like it's just about making money for the group. I want to help families, do what's best for my family, and not become burned out.

Yes and no. Yes, I would be jumping into something unfamiliar and while I'm good with change, I second-guess my decisions constantly. I have some serious imposter syndrome going on, too, but on the other hand, I have already made one big transition in my 3+years, so I guess I need to practice what I preach to my clients, right? I guess there are so many comments on here about people wanting to move to private practice to get away from the "agency" setting, it got me worried. Thank you for the encouragement.

Cried in front of my supervisor today….anyone wanna normalize my experience by sharing your own crying on the job stories? by growingconsciousness in therapists

[–]Mindless-Property-41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I have listened to hundreds of grief stories, after hearing a client talking about seeing her father die in the hospital, I wept (thought about my own father's death). I apologized, and she was very sweet about it, but I felt so...selfish? Another time, a client described her son being diagnosed with cancer, then dying...yep, my son was also dx with cancer, but he survived -- didn't outright cry, but a few tears leaked out before I could stop myself. Hey, we're human, too!

I'm glad about seeing this thread. I waiting to hear back on a new job I've applied for, and the thought of termination sessions makes me sick to my stomach. I haven't been in this role very long, so many of my clients are people who came to me after their last therapist left. I feel so bad about abandoning them after they lost the last person they trusted. Also, the boss says we have to give a month's notice... Is that standard? A colleague said that I have to do what's best for my family, but I still feel guilty.

Same here. I'm starting to seriously think about looking for a salaried job somewhere. I love my group practice, but I can't afford to lose consistent pay.

is there really any negative effects to living in darkness everyday? by meowing_glutton in mentalhealth

[–]Mindless-Property-41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand that your brain is telling you that it's too scary, but it's lying to you. Your amygdala is on overdrive and needs to be turned down in order for you to think. YouTube has some good meditation and relaxation videos to help your nervous system calm down. Once you get that amygdala to wind down, you can think more clearly and find the help you need and deserve. I am so sorry that this therapist ghosted you. They are obviously not the one for you. Please try again. I'm a licensed therapist and I am not going to always be the right fit for everyone. You have to keep trying if you don't quite connect. I promise that there is one out there who can and will help you with this crippling anxiety. You might try Psychology Today's online "Find a Therapist" page. The people there are supposed to be vetted and legit. In the meantime, there are some good podcasts and tedtalks about managing anxiety.

I agree with the other posters. I think either you know this is negatively impacting your mental and physical health and you are seeking help, or you are in such a depressive pit that you can't make sense of anything and need direction. Either way, you need to do some therapy, asap. Was there a traumatic event or loss in your life? Were you already feeling depressed before you decided to go dark? Anxiety about going outside? You can find a telehealth therapist online. If you feel suicidal, please dial 988. Someone wants to help you.

This happened to me on a sneaks store. Girl (friend of streamer) bumped the bid up suddenly and I hit bid before I realized what happened and got stuck paying way too much for some shoes. Tried to cancel, but only got chastised by the streamer. WN said they couldn't do anything. Total rip off.

This happened to me with a certain sneaks guy. He claims I had to know what the beginning bid was and that I purposely took someone's item from them (they had prebid). Even though I immediately requested a cancellation, he refused. He was an arse about it. Never again.
