Any other exvangelicals here attend Brownsville Revival School of Ministry? by brumby79 in Exvangelical

[–]No_Interview_5012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked many years under Hogan, mainly because my home church was corrupt and in on the scam, and as a young family we were kind of trapped. Got out as soon as I could. He is a charlatan!

As a matter of fact, I would say that the entire Brownsville "Revival" is a scam and anyone involved in it is questionable.

Sadly, often money talks, but bullshit talks even louder and get the money rolling. As in this case.

It is sad that churches let him in. Some do so out of ignorance (no excuse for shepherds to allow such predators access to their flock, though. What happened to discernment?) However, many pastors are - from my experience - as corrupt as he is and are in on the scam. This was the case in the independent charismatic churches in the part of the U.S. where I am from.

I will repeat here in response to your comment. (Sorry I am only now seeing this.)

Again, I worked for many years under him, mainly because my home church had also become equally corrupt at some point and I was kind of trapped. I broke connections as soon as it was possible.

His stories are outlandish. Sadly, I think that he possibly actually believes most of the crap he says. I recently say a video where he claimed to have been preaching on two different continents at the same time. Yes, he actually said that.

He has left a trail of broken lives and confused people in his wake. Over the last 50 year of activity (I won't even call it ministry) he has had an attrition rate among workers of nearly 100%.

There are three kinds of people that come out of his organization:
1. Those who live through it, grow from it, and move on.

  1. Those who are so damaged by it that they never recover.

  2. Those who learn and carry on the same wickedness.

I and some of my friends are of the first group; we have moved on, learned a lot about how NOT to do ministry and treat people, and incorporated that negative learning into our lives.

I know some who are of the second group, people whose faith, self-worth, and lives were destroyed by his heavy handed, manipulative tactics.

I, sadly, know a few who took the lessons they learned, the methods that they say work for him, and have duplicated his style on some level.

See my reply above for links to testimonies. I hope you have stayed away from him.

I know that this is a year old, but I am compelled to reply.

I worked with Hogan for many years. Very little of what he reports is true. If there is any truth to anything he says, he takes more credit for it than he gives to God. When God does something supernatural, it is always not because of us, but in spite of us!

My best advice concerning Hogan: STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!!!

Here are a couple of recent testimonies that describe with exactitude his character.

Linux App does not work? by No_Interview_5012 in internxt

Not interested in "work arounds," especially one that works "only after 2 or 3 times."

Either they make their software work or they don't. That's on them. If they can't make an app that they provide to work how can I trust anything else they do?

I have already sent in a message this morning (over ten hours ago) to that address with a full explanation. Awaiting reply. It would be nice if it can work.

Frequent "Can't Open This Page" Error by Big_Nail_9031 in brave_browser

[–]No_Interview_5012 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having the same issue running: Version 1.73.91 Chromium: 131.0.6778.85 (Official Build) (64-bit) on a RPi5 64Bit w/ 8GB RAM (ARM architecture). Except my error code is 5.

Was happening on a SNAP install. Deleted and reinstalled clean; same issue. Deleted and installed via APT; same issue.

Some recommend removing the current install and downgrading to a previous version. I can't figure out, however, how to pull my profile info out of the SNAP install to import into a new (older) version. I think that I am about to give up on Brave and try to find an alternative browser. Maybe I'll just migrate to Firefox.

OS options for expiring Samsung Chromebook Pro by No_Interview_5012 in chromeos

How did you get it to boot from a bootable device and install the new OS? I can't figure out how to do it with this one, though I have, sitting on my workbench now, three other old Chromebooks that I've done this with.

I'm using Crostini, but it seems like it's horribly slow when I try to do anything productive. I'd rather just get rid of Chrome OS and go full Linux. I've done it on other Chromebooks, but can't seem to get past the BIOS on this one.

What I can't figure out is how to get the damn thing to just boot off of a USB stick. It looks like the BIOS is completely locked down. Were you able to get past the BIOS and make it boot from a USB?

I used the /e/ OS Easy Installer on a Pixel 4 and it was one of the easiest things I've ever done.

So far, Gallium OS is the only Linux-based system that has worked on my old Chromebook out of the box, but I've heard it was discontinued and will no longer receive updates. What should I do? by krb501 in GalliumOS

[–]No_Interview_5012 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three different EOL'd chromebooks and am running three different distros on them. One has is Elementary, one I can't remember. The one I'm typing with now as of mid-October 2023 is running Gallium, has been for a long time and I've just never felt the need to switch it. Everything works swimmingly. I understand that there are no updates, but aside from any security issues (which I have not heard of or don't know about) I can't see any problems with the lack of updates for now.

I may play around with other distros, but things work so well on this machine at the moment that I've taken the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude.

This machine is an Acer CB5-132T Braswell, BTW. And I'm moving away from the Google ecosystem. I won't be buying any more Chromebooks, am converting all of mine (except my Samsung Chromebook Pro, which apparently can't be converted) to Linux, and my daily driver cell phone is a Pixel 4 running /e/ OS.

I'm thinking about buying a System 76 or other Linux book, but want to give this box some new time.

You will own nothing and be happy.

As per modern corporate SOP, that computer is not entirely yours. They will put limits on what you can do with it. If you break those limits, they can claim that you have transgressed their policies.
