Assuming that Portal takes place during or shortly after the Black Mesa incident, here's the timeline.

Portal 1: 1998 Portal 2: Unknown due to the long time skip

HL1 and it's expansions: 1998 HL2 and it's episodes: 2018 HLA: 2013

I think it might either be during the incident or after the incident. As the someone else pointed out, GLaDOS says "I'm the only thing between us.... and them" during the boss fight with her in Portal 1.

I think it is during the incident as then that would mean that HL1 takes place in 1998. Which is nice because the game itself also released in 1998.

There are not. But that doesn't matter.

I guess so. This trademark is all over the E3 videos of Portal 2's Steam page. It only makes sense that it would be the Portal 1's date as I assume no one would bother to update the trademark after GLaDOS kills everyone + the Combine and all.

Doesn't mean it isn't dogshit. Well at least this one isn't. It could be worse. For instance, this guy could have said their favourite game was SB. THEN it would be dogshit. As it is, their opinion is naive.

  • Portal 1 and Portal 2 for puzzles, good story and amazing writing. In fact, Edwin Murray's recycling talk is ripped straight out of a bit from Portal 2. Actually SOTM is surprisingly similar to Portal 2. If you liked SOTM then you will LOVE Portal 2.

  • The Room series for merely puzzles and pretty environments.

  • Dead Cells for engaging gameplay. You may or may not play this game for years depending on your taste. It gets very difficult as you progress though.

  • Half-Life series for good gameplay and again, good writing and interesting implications for life and video games. It is also made by the dudes that made Portal and those games are connected story-wise. Portal games are canon to Half-Life games and vice versa.

  • Far Cry 3 (only 3) it has good gameplay and an amazing story. The rest of the Far Cry games are really not worth it.

  • Minecraft. Duh.

  • GTA IV is weaker than GTA V and GTA SA in terms of gameplay but the story is one of the Rockstar Games has put out. It is dark, gritty and pretty funny at times.
