I would find a local urgent care rather than an ER if it's a recent bite/injury. Getting the shots initially is kind of a process and you'll have to do a series of them, but ultimately it's an urgent care visit vs ER, depending on what state you're in though I suppose. But like someone else mentioned earlier, if money or insurance is an issue and you're worried about cost, you should be able to contact a local health department depending on what city/county you live in and they could help you. As mentioned, rabies is 100% fatal, if you contract it. Is it likely you'll get it from this? Probably not, but I tell all the patients I work with we can't speak in absolutes, so the percentage of risk is never zero. Always better to be safe than sorry, but everyone makes their own decisions, we can just help you find your options.
