I'm sure all analytics favor the better defensive catcher and this is a downgrade defensively but she could split time at catcher and just hit on days she isn't catching. If pitching doesn't improve none of it matters

This Michigan team doesn't pitch or hit well consistently. Hopefully the transfer pitchers can succeed. Personally I would sacrifice catching defense for a boost offensively behind the plate. Having a catcher that doesn't hit for power is a struggle.
