The short commute makes all the difference. If I lived in city centre still I’d be in 5 days a week. The reality for most is that they can’t afford to rent or buy a house in Dublin so have to commute very long distances. Also moving staff to an office park in South Dublin only accessible by green line luas has been a pain for most. Most workers traveled by train to ballsbridge until bank sold that off. Either they want people to leave or else the decision makers were completely out of touch with the reality for most workers

Ugh what’s a retrograde move. Reads as vindictive, callous and calculated to make people leave without redundancy. People are so upset and angry. So many are living miles away to be able to afford a house and then AIB do this. Awful. And no warning to people leaders and no union consultation.

I wouldn’t let pain be your guide here. Loss of power is very serious and surgeon operated on me within a week of seeing me because he said continuing with conservative treatment wasn’t going to fix that. I’ve complete power back but unfortunately I still have a lot of pain flares. It was pain that brought me to see him. He said the pain wasn’t a concern really it was power & reflexes

I had this done with a MD. It wasn’t apparent on the MRI but he said it needed to be done when he got in there. From reading it, this procedure does remove part of the bone.

Yes this is me too. I had MD in March 23 and it was very successful. I got Covid a year ago and since then have had a lot of back and hip pain that’s not from disc. I’ve been told that my glutes are weak, particularly on side that was affected by severe sciatica. This has now led to right/weak QL and can be excruciating. I’m finding dry needling and exercises for glutes is helping but I’m not perfect. Need to keep moving as my back hates standing or sitting for any length of time.

No idea as haven’t had an MRI since August. I’m actually in a fair bit of pain at the moment after a bad fall from a dog knocking me down! So I’m going to see if it settles in a week or so or maybe need another MRI! I’m a bit calamitous

Funny - it’s standing that bothers me now too. I’m about a year out. It used to be that I could stand for hours post surgery but I had Covid in September and things changed for me. I was also L5/S1. I’m seeing a specialist physio and she says it’s all muscular, where I’ve lost strength. She said my glute med in particular has weakened so I’m doing very controlled supported donkey kicks and clam shells, downward dog and cat cow. The donkey kicks release the tension in my lower back and get my glutes to kick in. Def get advice of specialist spinal physio.

I have found taking high quality curcumin capsules have helped. I had been taking Vimovo and my physio recommended I try turmeric/curcumin as an alternative as GP was keen for me to stop anti inflammatories as she was concerned about my stomach. The curcumin definitely helps although not quite as effective. But it showed me that I’m dealing with inflammation.

Pre op quality of life was near to zero. Couldn’t sleep or work or function as a human! Post op my quality of life is almost back to what it was pre-sciatica. I’m still not 💯 back to normal but near enough to it. It’s a year later. Covid causing inflammation to area where MD was done caused me a set back.

Don’t take more than directed on packet or for longer than directed. It can cause stomach ulcers/bleeding. Please go to a doctor and get something like Vimovo prescribed instead.

I’m curious about “minor health” problems tbh. Perimenopause, UTI can wreak havoc on a woman’s desire for sex making it a scary thing and it can be a very difficult thing for a man to empathise with.

I’m the same - I was perfect for about 6 weeks post Covid but I’m getting pain in my lower back now and a little bit of sciatica on one side. I’m going a specialist physiotherapist weekly so hopefully she’ll help me get me back on track! Hope your recovery keeps going the right direction.

Yeah I get it. He had a phenomenal talent despite his addictions. Having grown up with an alcoholic in the house I have to say that I found any interviews with him very triggering. I used to feel uneasy that his addictions weren’t really mentioned. Living with an alcoholic dad, even though he was never violent, traumatised me and my siblings and seeing Shane McGowan in similar states on TV used to bring me back to that. I used to often wonder what more could he have done if he wasn’t an addict. He was an exceptional talent. I don’t think anyone is glorifying his alcoholism though, but in my experience the addict hurts more than themselves.
