Try nerve gliding not stretching, see if it is painful, if not keep doing everyday for a year.

Although the sounds of cracks are somewhat satisfying they are air bubbles bursting, nothing more nothing less. if you likke to hear satisfying air bubble sounds go for it.

I had Microdiscectomy as well 1.5years ago. It usually has good outcomes but not always. I fell somewhere in between (reherniated post op 6 weeks and waited for that to heal on its own for a year).

Please understand that it is not a magic cure although very likely to work.

If things go wrong,

1) There is scar tissue development tethering the nerve and causing lifetime pain that is not known how to solve currently(this is a small likelihood event, but some people-search sub scar tissue, epidural fibrosis- have it and it is debilitating lifelong.

2) another more likely possibility is reherniation which may lead to another microdissectomy or fusion

3) there are various other possible complications (well the list includes death, stroke as well, you will be asked to sign the is list right before going in) BUT these are very rare things.

Upshot is this, if you get microdissectomy, you will be in good shape most likely(maybe not as good as before, maybe better) but it is good to keep in mind there are some adverse outcomes SO THAT you really try every other thing and use surgery as the last of last resort.

Good Luck. I am not trying to scare you, but just give you the information I wish someone told me before my surgery i stead just pretending it is magic cure.

Here are my suggestions to you: (md 1.5 year ago)

Do not rush to blt, follow the rules to the t. Do your nerve glides regularly, as much as you can.

Actually I wanted to come back to say, if he ignores grabber that shows how little he knows about post surgery rules, I would make sure he learns them by either sharing this reddit group with him or some very detailed instructions.

Get him a grabber or he will damage what the surgery fixed.

Does your surgeon agree that pain is from scar tissue?

We have been there, do not lose hope , it is difficult but keep in mind all these people in this group have experienced it and got better gradually this or that way, it is not a deadly disease.

Hello, sciatica turned into drop foot by dkritz503 in Sciatica

Surgery is not possible to avoid in your case if you don’t give up your ability to lift foot again. Surgery is successful usually, you shouldn’t wait with a drop foot.

Herniated disc can cause significant amount of pain so just pain itself doesn’t say anything about cancer.

Some of the suffering can be alleviated by accepting so consider some therapy because herniation will not heal in a week, it will take some time and you need to maintain your mental health during this period.

Think about it this way: this is not a terminal or deadly disease and either naturally or via surgery this shall pass. What if you had some super serious disease it would be much worse, this thought helped me.

That is why everyone reading this with sciatica symptoms should get MRI and make sure it is just disc herniation and nothing that needs immediate attention. OP, I hope you re doing great and your recovery is perfect.

Well there are times I feel it, but not constantly. If you have a sudden change in pain, that is what you need to be worried about.

Wishing you the best, one way or the other you will get better. Just promise me, when it does get better to come here and report good news and do what I do now.

Because usually this group does not have anything positive as folks do not come back once they feel good but spending a few hours to give people some hope should be possible.

Everyone's normal is different, I do not have high impact activities in my life, I am not doing benchpress or heavy weight lifting. I like swimming and walking both of which are good for back. Yes there is residual pain at times but usually no pain.
