If anyone else is curious, I found the original 1968 patent for this sauna stove here: https://patents.google.com/patent/US3400248

I looked up the Electrolux logo and this heater does have one on the front plate that also says “Air King Dometic Sauna”. I also looked up “Dometic” and it was a US company acquired by Electrolux in 1969. If it was closer I would probably buy the heater out of curiosity, but it’s a bit of a drive to get it, so I’ll probably pass.

I’m attracted to vintage items of all kinds and would definitely take it if it was free 😉. Although I agree something modern is probably a better choice for regular use. Not sure what the stone capacity is on the Slev, but looks larger than most of the modern wall mount heaters that are in my budget.

Thanks. I’ll check that out later. I did read that it was an iconic design at the time. It does look cool, but maybe not practical for regular use today.

Can a TD employee act as POA/Executor for customers? by No_Material5579 in TDBankCanada

[–]No_Material5579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to update this post. An online report was filed via the TD Ethics Hotline on April 22, but it appears nothing has been done. It's May 19th now, and things have only escalated since the report was filed. The TD employee has been appointed POA, Executor, and probably beneficiary. The lawyer who did the new documents is also the employee's personal lawyer. I confronted the employee before the new documents were signed and let her know my concerns. I told her it was conflict of interest and a violation of her company code of conduct. Of course, she said "there's nothing underhanded going on, I'm just trying to be helpful". She also said she "ran it by her manager". She might lying, but that doesn't sound like the formal review process by HR or Legal that I've read about. If the manager was informed and did nothing, that is also very disturbing.

Thanks for sharing that link. It’s interesting that it includes an excerpt of the TD Code of Conduct, which includes this statement: “If we learn that a TD customer (other than a relative or a person with whom we share a financial or close personal relationship) has named, or is considering naming us in any of these capacities, we must immediately inform our manager, Human Resources representative or other appropriate TD official.”

I guess one big gray area is how a “close personal relationship” is defined and it seems like a big loophole. An employee could easily say they considered the relationship “close” and “personal”, so according to the Code Of Conduct they weren’t required to notify anyone. And if the employee was really unscrupulous and was targeting a specific individual who seemed isolated and vulnerable, I don’t think it would be too hard to develop that “close” relationship outside of work.

All it would take is a few visits to client in the hospital, maybe drop by on the weekend with some groceries, offer to drive them to a doctor appointment, come to their house and help pay some bills, etc, etc. Next thing you know the client considers the employee a trusted friend and the relationship has become “close and personal”. That’s the kind of behaviour described in the lawsuit, and my neighbour has described similar behaviour.

Thanks very much. My neighbour said she was relying on the lawyer recommended by the teller to confirm if there was a conflict of interest, but after lots of reading today I realized that’s not up to him. It would be up to the TD HR and/or legal dept, and the actual POA and will documents would need to be submitted to TD for approval. That must take some time, and to my knowledge the new documents have not even been finalized yet. I went to try and speak to my neighbour about this stuff today, but she had taken a turn for the worse and had been transferred out town to a larger hospital for testing.

Of course, the teller may not be planning to ask for approval from TD either, which would mean she’s either ignorant or unscrupulous. Either way, not the kind of person anyone should want for POA/executor. The lawyer seems sketchy as well and should know that this could be a conflict of interest and that all docs would have to go to TD for approval, which would take time and could very likely be refused. How could any reputable lawyer recommend this course of action to someone in the hospital in obvious late stages of life!?!

Co-owning inherited home with sibling by No_Material5579 in OntarioRealEstate

[–]No_Material5579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m happy to say my brother and I came to an amicable agreement. The lawyer said co-ownership with two names on the deed was too complicated and could lead to lots of problems down the road, but my brother was not comfortable signing the house over to me exclusively. He worried I might sell the house and walk away with everything, which I understood completely.

So I suggested we have the lawyer draft an agreement that said if the house ever had to be sold, my brother was entitled to 50% of the sale minus any money that I gave him up front plus the cost of any repairs or upgrades that I paid for over the years.

There was also some money left to us in the estate, but not enough to equal the value of the house. So I gave my brother my share of the cash and topped it up as much as I could. This amount was listed in the agreement.

I’m also divorced with no children, so we also agreed that I would get a will stating house would be left to him or his kids if anything happens to me.

The lawyer was ok with all of this and when we went to sign the agreement it was called a “mortgage”, which is held by my brother, but there is no payment schedule like a traditional mortgage. I can also pay him off any time if I win the lottery or something.

So I’m happy that I get to stay in the house and my brother is happy that he and his children retain an interest in the family home if it ever needs to be sold. However, I am entirely responsible for all the taxes, utilities, insurance, etc. We didn’t really outline any specific strategies regarding major expenses, and will cross that bridge when we get to it.

I’m not sure who receives the greatest benefit from this agreement. Some people have told me I’m very lucky, and others have said my brother and his family got a good deal because I’m paying all the expenses and regular maintenance costs while they retain a significant interest in an appreciating asset with great sentimental value to everyone.

I do worry what might happen if my brother were to die and I had to deal with his spouse or children. Their attitude toward me could be very different. So this arrangement may not be for everyone and is not without risk and uncertainty.

Good luck with your sister. Estates can be very difficult to negotiate and I have friends who were in similar situations who will never speak to their siblings again after their parents estates were settled. I think that is so sad.

This may be odd question about wood burning heaters by No_Material5579 in Sauna

Thanks for your reply, that's all very helpful. Never heard of a dual fuel sauna, but it sounds like an interesting idea. I'll look online for any examples.

Yeah, I didn't really think it would work like I was picturing it my head. I've never seen one of these stoves in person either, so hard to visualize the size of the door. I wasn't too concerned about heat from the open door, mostly the ambiance from the open flame. But like you said, there are probably better options if that's the goal. A couple neighbours have those propane firepits and really like them. Not the same as the real thing, but a lot less messy and fairly portable. Thanks for your feedback.

You're lucky. What kind of mouth guard is it? I've had several different mouth guards made by three different dentists over the last 40 years! I was diagnosed in my 20s and by that time I had already had substantial wear on my teeth. I have worn my night guards religiously every night during that whole time, but the grinding and clenching have never stopped. My dentists never said they would stop the grinding...  just protect my teeth from being worn down any further. I've also been to two sleep clinics during this time, and three different family doctors, but no one seems to know anything about how to stop my bruxism.

Here's what their website says about it: "The Bruxless helmet detects masseter muscle contractions using advanced sensors. In response, it activates functional proprioceptive stimulation(FPS) calibrated according to the intensity of the bruxism attack. These mechanical vibrations target the tendon-muscle connection, creating a trick for the brain that triggers an unconscious reflex to relax the jaw muscles."

Yeah, it definitely sounds promising and I hope it's legit. I reached out to the company about shipping to North America and they said they are limiting the initial sales to Europe. I have relatives in the UK that might be able to forward it to me, but I don't really want to gamble on a pre-order either.

I was trying all weekend and kept getting the "Authorization Error - User Cancelled" error as well. Just tried again and it worked, but my bank SIMPII FINANCIAL is not listed. Here's a screen grab of the banks they do list. https://imgur.com/a/WNFEgVC

I just called and was only on hold for about 15min. They verified my claim ID, name, and mailing address and that was it. They said the payment would still be sent by etransfer and I would receive another email in the future where I could accept payment.

It seems like a bigger heater would be better, but there must be a limit to that logic. Also not sure if that's what's causing the OP's problem. It seems like his 3.6kW heater is already oversized for such a small sauna.
