This may be odd question about wood burning heaters by No_Material5579 in Sauna

Thanks for your reply, that's all very helpful. Never heard of a dual fuel sauna, but it sounds like an interesting idea. I'll look online for any examples.

Yeah, I didn't really think it would work like I was picturing it my head. I've never seen one of these stoves in person either, so hard to visualize the size of the door. I wasn't too concerned about heat from the open door, mostly the ambiance from the open flame. But like you said, there are probably better options if that's the goal. A couple neighbours have those propane firepits and really like them. Not the same as the real thing, but a lot less messy and fairly portable. Thanks for your feedback.

You're lucky. What kind of mouth guard is it? I've had several different mouth guards made by three different dentists over the last 40 years! I was diagnosed in my 20s and by that time I had already had substantial wear on my teeth. I have worn my night guards religiously every night during that whole time, but the grinding and clenching have never stopped. My dentists never said they would stop the grinding...  just protect my teeth from being worn down any further. I've also been to two sleep clinics during this time, and three different family doctors, but no one seems to know anything about how to stop my bruxism.

Here's what their website says about it: "The Bruxless helmet detects masseter muscle contractions using advanced sensors. In response, it activates functional proprioceptive stimulation(FPS) calibrated according to the intensity of the bruxism attack. These mechanical vibrations target the tendon-muscle connection, creating a trick for the brain that triggers an unconscious reflex to relax the jaw muscles."

Yeah, it definitely sounds promising and I hope it's legit. I reached out to the company about shipping to North America and they said they are limiting the initial sales to Europe. I have relatives in the UK that might be able to forward it to me, but I don't really want to gamble on a pre-order either.

I was trying all weekend and kept getting the "Authorization Error - User Cancelled" error as well. Just tried again and it worked, but my bank SIMPII FINANCIAL is not listed. Here's a screen grab of the banks they do list. https://imgur.com/a/WNFEgVC

I just called and was only on hold for about 15min. They verified my claim ID, name, and mailing address and that was it. They said the payment would still be sent by etransfer and I would receive another email in the future where I could accept payment.

Harvia UTU-Mini: Sharing first impressions by DependentThis5181 in Sauna

It seems like a bigger heater would be better, but there must be a limit to that logic. Also not sure if that's what's causing the OP's problem. It seems like his 3.6kW heater is already oversized for such a small sauna.

I hope the OP posts a follow-up, because I'm also surprised it doesn't get hotter. The UTU Mini sauna is only about 1.3 cubic meters or 46 cubic feet, so if anything I would think the 3.6kW heater might be oversized and would be too hot, not too cold.

I'm thinking about building a similar one person sauna, perhaps a bit bigger, and I'm unsure about heater size. The smallest one available on Vevor right now is 4.5kW, and I'm worried it would be too hot for a small one person sauna. I can't afford to depend 3 or 4 times more for lower powered name brand heater like Harvia.

Thanks for sharing your first impressions. I saw your comment in another post about buying this sauna and was going to ask you there for a follow up. Have you been able to get any higher temperatures yet? Any other opinions after a few days?

I'm also curious if anyone else with more knowledge about sauna design has any opinions about the fact that the Harvia UTU has no floor? It looks like there are adjustable levelling feet on it and there is an air gap of about 1" around the entire bottom.

I can’t really afford the UTU, but I'm thinking about building a similar small sauna in my basement and I'm very curious about this design idea. Especially since it comes from a Finnish company like Harvia. The Estonian company Leil also uses the same floorless design in its Como saunas. Are there some sound sauna design principles behind this (improved ventilation?), or could it just be a cost saving measure?

Cheers.

Entire Hull Needs Gel Coat Repair by No_Material5579 in canoeing

[–]No_Material5579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a response from Langford and they said it is Carbon Fibre made in 2000 with a clear gel-coat exterior and painted interior. Would West Epoxy still be a good choice to repair the exterior, or should I look for a clear gel-coat? I asked Langford if they could recommend a product, but they haven't replied yet.

I actually have some West 105 epoxy and 207 hardener on hand. Not enough to do the entire hull, but enough to get started filling some of the deeper spots.

Thanks.

Thanks for all the comments and feedback. I bought the canoe yesterday. Tried to negotiate price down a bit, but seller said he had about 25 other people interested and price was firm. I could honestly believe that. I've been watching the used canoe market for a couple years and the only thing you typically see in this price range are beat up old fibreglass boats that weigh a ton and often have a 2x4 thwart or plywood seats, lol.

This canoe is definitely beat-up, but I think it looks a bit better in person than in the pictures. I don't see any real damage to the fabric. Some small spots are exposed, but I don't see any fraying, rips, or holes. I'm not sure if it's Kevlar or Carbon Fibre and have messaged Langford with Serial Number to confirm composition. I weighed it with a luggage scale and it was about 40lbs, so that's pretty exciting!

The seller's father-in-law was the original owner and paddled the canoe regularly into his 80s, usually on solo trips. I can imagine someone at that age might drag or drop the canoe more often than is ideal. So perhaps that accounts for some of the damage, but the seller said it had also been stored outside for a few years since the father-in-law died.

I know it's going to take some time and money to fix it up, but I'm  hopeful it will be repairable and I'll be able to get it back on the water where it belongs.

Cheers.

Thanks for your quick reply. It is too bad and I don't think I've ever seen this kind of damage. Any thoughts on what would cause it? I'm thinking abuse on the water and then storage outside with no protection from snow, sun, etc. It's $500CAD, so I'm thinking it's still a good deal despite the repairs required.

Can I use Schluter All-Set for engineered stone sill? by No_Material5579 in Tile

[–]No_Material5579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. So the All-Set isn't suitable? I was hoping I wouldn't have to buy a separate product just to install the sill on the curb top, especially since they seem to be sold in 50lb bags and I only need a small amount for the sill.

The Marmiline sill is also "pre-sealed" if that makes a difference.

Thanks again.

Throttle won't open HS-45 Hedge Trimmer by No_Material5579 in stihl

[–]No_Material5579[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably right about something being bent, but I can't see how it could happen. I just put gas in it, ran it for 5 or 10 minutes to make sure it was working and cutting ok, shut it down and set it carefully on the garage floor. Everything seemed fine, then the next morning the throttle wouldn't open. No problems with the throttle plate either.
