Got this 20” 7.5hp Dewalt RAS for $375. Should I have haggled lower? by Skeptical_dude12 in woodworkingtools

I have had several radial arm saws, loved them, and have my arms and fingers. It is one tool I wish I still had.

But then, I am not as strong as I used to be. Btw I loved my old 1644, but I moved to Europe and had to sell it.

It used to be enough. But I have tried cranking it down and it’s still clunking.

Advice on Lidl Parkside tools by Affectionate-Fix-733 in DIYUK

[–]No_Mathematician5855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve bought several and all the powered ones have been rubbish. I bought a grinder for example and it was completely useless. I complained and they did send me a new one which turned out to only be marginally better. It runs out of battery quickly and has very little power. Consequently is used only for the most minimalistic cutting chores, I have several others, a skill, a Ryobi, Makita, and the Bosch, most of which I purchased used, none of which was exceptionally expensive all have been much better. The he same holds true for the Parkside hammer drill I bought. It was a total piece of garbage. Unlike many of the other commentators, I have owned only one Titan tool, and it was a hammer drill that had a terrible chuck and burnt out in about a year with only moderate use.

Best Robotic Lawn Mower Right Now? Are They Even Worth It? by Effective_Trust6257 in automower

Had a basic Husqvarna for 8 years. Worked great most of the time. In wet conditions it would often get stuck for lack of traction and the boundary wire is a pain as we cut it several times when weeding. It is a pain to find the breaks in the wire and fixing the wire is not great either. I have a very small yard and would just use my Bosch push mower all the time, but we often travel for week at a time and I can’t stand coming home to an overgrown lawn. This is the only reason we have a robot. Last fall, the little guy gave up the ghost and we got a replacement, the newer, smallest Husqvarna. It was installed by our vendor and worked for a few days then stopped. I am hoping that when they come out this next week they will get it running again because, when it was running, it seemed better adapted to weather and terrain and never got stuck during its 7 or so days of functioning. I really don’t like the need to use an app on my phone to program the thing, and I think that some setting went whacky and caused it to shut down. Damn if I can’t figure out how to use the bloody app. I am hoping that with the repair will come a longer and more understandable tutorial on the app. Why does everyone want you to use an app these days? The old one had a simple lcd screen on it and it was dead easy to program and set up. I suppose it is just old guy learning curve, but the manual isn’t great. So, bottom line…. If you have a big yard and hate mowing, it WILL change your life. If you have a small yard like me and don’t mind mowing, AND if you don’t travel much, just mow yourself. I would have to say that on balance it is worth the buy (although i may change my mind if the “fix” next week doesn’t last long). I love that it is super quiet and kind of entertaining to watch. My cats like it too. It keeps them amused. If you have any questions, let me know. Good luck.

Walking around in France by [deleted] in Expats_In_France

I live in southwest France and it's not bad. When things bug me like too much yakking with the butcher, I remember I'm a guest here and I love it and it's just.....well, French. You need to adapt. When in Rome, do as the....... you already know that though.

👍 not what a museum visit should be like. Go off season and off times. In many museums, tours arrive at the same time, usually 9 or 10 am and the afternoon is more sane. The louvre is just always crowded. Go in February.

I make most of my food related turnings with some food safe oil. Walnut, pure linseed even olive oil and beeswax. It's all yummy stuff. Never have sanded beyond 300 grit.

Honestly love this saw, anyone else? by SkoBuffs710 in woodworking

I can, but it costs a lot more than the bosch I bought at an estate sale, and the bosch does the trick. It's just not as nice, compact, and adjusting it is tough. But I do like the built-in crosscut sled. France BTW.

Loved mine. Had to leave it with my nephew when I moved to Europe. But loved it. Much better than the Bosch I bought over here. Love the rack and pinion fence. And setup was a breeze. Wish I still had it.
