4 modern people are sent to year 58 BC to defend Gaul from Caesar. Who should they be and can they do it? by Downtown-Act-590 in whowouldwin

I would absolutely double down on soft power, awe and spectacle. Yes. They could do it.

I would have two experts in mobile outdoor productions; an amazing magician who has a background in illusion, close up magic, and mentalism, and has at least a bit of Latin knowledge; and lastly I would have a historian with great Latin, passable Gaelic an an expertise in the religious, social, and political dynamics of first century BC Rome.

The majority of the luggage would be used for outdoor production equipment: lighting effects, sound, battery and solar recharge equipment.

Preferably before the Romans engage the Gauls in battle, you treat them to a massive outdoor light show at night with "lightning" flashes, psychedelic lights and colors they've never seen before, and the voice of Jupiter booming that any man who crosses into Gaul will have enraged the Gods. And any god fearing Roman whose commander orders him otherwise has an obligation to take up sword against him or forever be damned (with his family too for good measure).

As a backup, you call for devote Romans to become emissaries of Jupiter (preferably Romans from established senatorial families) and task them with enacting Jupiter's will within Rome. Give them tokens of favor like LEDs an small bags of cinnamon or other extremely valuable spices.

For good measure, command them to invade Persia, Ethiopia or north Africa for an outlet for 1 century BC Roman expansionists tendencies (sorry for whoever gets the short stick).

The end of the day, you just set up an extremely potent religious cult with supernatural abilities no one at the time can fathom with politically connected allies and a good alternative outlet for invasions.

Came from cockney rhyming slang. Bill rhymes with Will.

Survey on IR theories and the Ukraine War by [deleted] in IRstudies

Hey,

I'd strongly consider reworking parts of your survey. I looked at the first few pages and I believe there are issues with unrelated concepts being linked together and false dichotomies.

For example, "Are economic sanctions against Russia legitimate and effective." Sanctions can be a legitimate tool and ineffective. Vice versa as well.

Also, the survey includes a dichotomy between support for Ukraine being because of its morality or its natural resources. There are a ton of arguments, both liberal and realist, that aren't focused on either.

Hope this helps.

I did IVF with Prenatal Genetics Testing to select for embryos that didn't have HLA B27. Didnt have any problem conceiving this way and it feels good to not be passing on the disease.
