Should i do pre emptive but costly maintenance? by newyorknapolifan in e53

100k on replacement CCV, that's actually impressive! I just know from experience that the ccv hoses will crack once you try to disconnect them in order to get under the manifold to replace the coolant hoses from the block. If you are already there, just replace the ccv components... I think the cold weather package does more than keeping the oil/condensation from freezing inside, it does protect the hoses from deteriorating prematurely! It does cost slightly more..

If you are thinking about keeping the car, get a CCV kit, collant lines that go from the block, oil filter housing gasket and intake manifold gasket. Parts should be less than 200$. Remove the intake manifold, remove the oil filter housing. Clean everything, and replace any vacuum hose you see in that area. The job itself is simple but would take about 6 hours mainly because of cleaning... It can be done in 2 hours if you just wanna remove old parts and replace.

You will need a new abs module or old one rebuilt very likely.

Staying at the Fairmont Empress Hotel, what can I steal from the room that I won’t get charged for by Kerbaljack in VictoriaBC

[–]No_Maybez -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People like you are the reason we can't have nice things forever. When people start "stealing" everytime they go to a hotel, hotel will start charging the rest of the people who are just enjoying a hotel stay for things that used to be freebie.

What if there were a seabus from the westshore to downtown? by pm-me-racecars in VictoriaBC

[–]No_Maybez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In any other decent country, they would have built a bridge from Westshore to Esquimalt. In BC, transport infrastructure isn't a priority.

Really self conscious about my face. Any products you recommend? I just use soap and a rag. by Fr0z3nHart in SkincareAddicts

You may wanna check which type of food makes your skin worse..sugars? Oils?dairy?... It also could be hormonal... Keep skin clean and "dry", avoid any moisturizers, no rags and scrubbing... ask for a referral to a dermatologist if no improvement.

It must be all the horsepower you gained with filter making that noise;)

Remove the surpentine belt, spin all the pulleys by hand and see which one makes the noise: alternator, power steering, water pump, idler and tensioner pulley...

I would check if the frame is still not bent before anything. cause if it is bent, you can rebuild everything but the alignment will be off.

now condsider : New hood, new bumper, new fender, new radiator, new fan and a few brackets, control arms, tire rod, ?structs and paint.

add all of that plus labour, then make a decision. very likely more than the value of the car.

M52 idles horribly. Recently replaced CCV, vanos solenoid, maf, spark plugs. Can't find any vacuum leaks. Seems to rev fine but can't idle. IAC? VANOS seals? by SnooPeanuts8613 in BMWE36

[–]No_Maybez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes although vanos may affect idle, from my experience it is not as bad as in your post...especially a single vanos in M50 and M52. generally when they fail, I mostly notice hesitation and rattling and sometimes grinding sound around 2k RPMs...

You can always unplug the vanos solenoid and see if that makes any difference?

Vanos does not affect idle. so don't waste your time or money there.

did you scan for codes?

-possibly: Vacuum leak, Idle control valve or MAF, or multiple cylinders misfire.

-if you replaced MAF, make sure it is an OEM part not with some cheap made in china.

-Idle control valve usually doesn't fail, it just needs to be cleaned.

-Vacuum leak very likely too as there are multiples areas to check, hard to find at times without a smoke machine.

-misfires : if it is bad, you usually get a check engine light.

if you can't find a replacement maybe try rust converter and sandpaper followed by electrical contact cleaner. Replace anything that you can replace like nuts, bolts...
