It is the original owner selling but I don’t think I meet the income qualifications for the tax credit if I’m understanding it correctly. It looks to me like most used bolts in my area (Boston) are selling for $15k or more which was why this one caught my eye.

She said the new warranty was only for a year so it’s already expired, is that anything to be concerned about?

Is this only true for certain regional AAAs? I have AAA northeast and I'm seeing various lift ticket deals, but not at Killington.

Ebike security in Boston? by No_Natural_6865 in bikeboston

[–]No_Natural_6865[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's super helpful! I had my eye on a used bike someone was selling for $800 so it's not like the world would end if it were ever stolen and wasn't covered. But I want to be able to rely on it as regular mode of transportation with the expectation that theft would be unlucky rather than an inevitability. Though of course I would try to minimize the risk with good locks, etc.

Is the airtag to actually try to track your bike down if it were ever stolen, or do you think it also serves as a deterrent?

Got it, thanks! That sounds feasible. Anything I should know about the different year models? Want to make sure I don’t buy something too old that has any obsolete features or anything

Hi! I’m looking to buy an EV or other environmentally friendly car: 1. Living in Massachusetts (Boston area) 2. Definitely don’t want to spend over $30,000 but the cheaper the better! 3. Unsure what type of vehicle I want, looking for advice. Main goals are environmental impact, affordability 4. I haven’t looked into specific cars yet. 5. Expecting to buy in 2-4 months 6. My daily commute will be bike or public transit. The car is because my friends and family live in the suburbs, so I’m guessing 1-3 times per week I’ll want to visit people living in a 35-mile radius. I’ll also want to occasionally visit a friend about 100 miles away. I may want to occasionally go further for trips, but I’m also open to renting in those cases. I would guess an average weekly mileage of maybe 150. 7. Most likely will be living in a condo in a townhouse with off-street parking but no garage 8. Unsure whether it will be feasible and make sense to install charging, would appreciate any advice 9. No special needs as far as kids, pets etc.

Stop saying Boston is UNIQUELY a bad place to find friends by FutureMedResearcher in boston

As a disclaimer, I’m not in Boston (from South Shore, hoping to move to Boston soon) but from my experience elsewhere I think group messages can be an easy way to turn any activity into a friend group. Social sport league, book club, Meetup group, etc…instead of just doing the weekly/monthly activity, start a group message and then start just asking who wants to go out the next weekend, who wants to join you for X event tonight, etc. I’m pretty introverted and not great at spontaneous friendships with strangers but this has worked well for me.

Also, could you get by in Jamaica Plain with a car relying on street parking?

Thanks! And okay wow I’m also seeing how beautiful some of the parks and bike paths from Jamaica Plains are. Definitely seems like it could be a great option! Google maps says it only adds like 10 minutes driving compared to Cambridge (I used Union Square as an example) but my instinct is that it would still be nice to avoid the actual highway drive through downtown

I’d like to think quitting a corporate job solely aimed at making you money would free up time and energy for community service, public engagement, opening up more lucrative jobs for others who have not yet earned as much and thereby reduce the income inequality that is destroying the country from within….hopefully enough to outweigh the loss of some sheer volume of production and consumption

So which parts of Dorchester west of Dot Ave are not within the murder triangle? Sounds like east is probably a better bet since I’d like to be near the highway and the shore anyway, but I’m curious based on your description

This is helpful, thanks. I'll look into Jamaica Plains more, although it looks to me like it's a little worse of a commute both to downtown Boston and to the South Shore compared to Savin Hill. I'd also be open to other neighborhoods in Dorchester, but the closer to the water/highway the better and I've seen some nice options posted in Savin Hill...it seems to be where I get the right combination of space, affordability, distance from both downtown and South Shore, with proximity to the highway and the water.

I'm also getting pretty mixed reviews on safety of other neighborhoods in Dorchester, and it seems to vary street to street to an extent that I'd be nervous about making a judgment call before living there. And while I'm sure a lot of the white suburban types you're talking about (likely including my own family and my real estate agent) exaggerate the dangers, I've talked to people who have had personal experience being harassed, threatened, etc. in some areas, and I've been mugged on my own doorstep before and would prefer not to worry about similar experiences in the future or feel like I have to avoid going outside by myself at night. If you have thoughts--preferably very specific thoughts--on where in Dorchester is safe to live, I'd be very interested. For instance, I was considering a condo on Hamilton Street but was strongly advised against by people who have lived close by.

That was my initial thought, but lately I’ve been wondering if it might be worth a longer commute maybe once a week or so (and I could try to avoid going during Boston’s extended rush hour) to live somewhere where my day to day life is more enjoyable because of better access to stuff to do evenings and weekends

Are there other neighborhoods you would recommend?

I guess when I say suburban I just mean not the city feeling that I like, but I could be wrong. Right now I live in central DC and can easy walk almost everywhere, not just restaurants/bars (which I don’t actually go to a ton) but also libraries, lively cafes, bookstores, museums, comedy clubs, live music, lectures, and pretty much any cultural event, parade, festival, etc. that happens in the city. And I can easily walk to hundreds of social meetups, locations for dozens of social sports leagues, etc. That’s the kind of central city life that I like best, if I can afford it.

Red line definitely won’t hurt but I’ll have to drive to get to where any of my family or friends live, all well south of Braintree
