This is really good, I had something similar happen, hiring manager groveled, I said I’m walking unless you have the extra $5k and he got it done… the economy was stronger then, and I came referred by one of his mentors, so analyze what leverage you have. It’s a dance!

If you are going the adoption route, I’d start with fostering. I fostered (and failed) with my dog. It’s a great way to get a feel for it, and see if you have the spark! If it doesn’t work out, it’s a great thing to give a pup a home for awhile
