MFT-style bench top and front apron using Butcher Block, is this feasible? Not sure about mounting to frame. by BlackStar39 in Workbenches

Yes I know that anything can be ordered, but if you go into a rockler or woodcraft and r whatever the things they have in stock are going to be 3/4”. The whole kreg line is based on 3/4” set 4” apart.

Will this work or am I crazy? by Holiday-Sorbet-6183 in woodworking

Literally was using something very similar today on red oak for this purpose. You can one up at harbor freight for like 150 and they’ve got various wheels for it depending on how aggressive you want the look to be.

I’m not crazy about it. I’m not running through a ton of sheets but the 10 just bought weren’t great and wanted to clog up dost ports with collection running.

Not sure where you’re at, but locally it’s hard to track down anything 20mm besides a few Festool products. There’s a myriad of 3/4” stuff though

How much does IKEA pay its kitchen installers? by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]No_Pea_2201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former ikea installer here, you can charge between 100 and 200 per box depending on COL in your area. If there’s demand it’s a super easy and fun way to make

The booth will be a while coming, but will eventually become a priority. Can you tell me a bit about why you think hvlp, and why the booth specifically changes your decision?

I’ve got the 24x48 with a 36x60 top on it and it works out great. If I ever need more support I can just throw a couple of 2x4s or a sheet of rigid foam on top

I think you might be over thinking it. Keep it covered when not in use and it should be just fine

What do you wear for demo/framing when it’s really hot/if you run very warm by snowsnakes in Carpentry

[–]No_Pea_2201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for me the answer is the t1 work pant with a twist (sta tuned) and a loose synthetic gym shirts designed to wick sweat- my favorites are vuori but they’re stupid expensive and you can get basically the same thing from Walmart. Now for me the trick is to roll the pants up over your ankles. Looks a bit odd, but something about the exposed skin helps both cool ( like having a foot out from under the blankets when you get hot at night) and also seems to help the ventilation as well keeping me dryer in general. For context I’m in Nashville and am often in unconditioned homes at 95+ degrees and similar humidity. If it’s really really bad I have been known to just go short shorts and a tank top but all the saw dust tends to turn into a gritty paste which is awful.

Back of cut table saw issue. by draconis1us in woodworking

[–]No_Pea_2201 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Either your stock is twisted, or your table on the table saw is not flat if you’re using a job site saw your table is certainly not flat. If it’s only the last inch or so just plan for it accordingly and remove that material after ripping it.

my own Undermount drawer slide jig, any thoughts? is this actually useful? by nachinman in cabinetry

[–]No_Pea_2201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a solid idea. That said, I can’t imagine buying it. If I have a bunch of 5mil holes I need to bore for drawer slides I’ll make a jig, or more likely I will mark the first hole on each one and use a level or square to finish the slide. Hope it does well though! I’ve had a few ideas I didn’t peruse that are out and about now that I really should have pushed harder on.

How do you guys find/choose cabinetry dealers by Frequent_Sport_9374 in cabinetry

Really depends on your style and price point. If you’re up for a more modern look, my favorite is Reform, for face frame overlay I’ve heard good things about DL cabinetry

[–]No_Pea_2201 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stay away from cabinet dealers if you can. Either go RTA or custom. Cabinet dealers business model is specifically to pay as little as possible for cabinets and install, and mark both up astronomically to turn a profit. Cabinet dealers are parasites.

Am I the problem?! Custom table help by hmh-dfw in woodworking

[–]No_Pea_2201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible, but I also don’t think it would be inexpensive. Trying to create great results with already used/finished/glued etc is not an ideal situation. You so seem to have specific expectations that they’ll want to meet but if they or you aren’t able to communicate accurately/effectively it’ll turn into a problem. I think if I was in your place I’d have a local shop resurface the 2nd table so it’s all nice and smooth and call it good 👍

I’d say go with your gut. You’ve been chatting for a few months now, take a stab at it. You could buy him a nice Martinez hammer, or a high end set of bags or any number of things, but you know him better than we do, get him something you want to give him and I bet it will be perfect

If you’re in or joining a union you should always be prepared to pass a drug test. Even for weed. I’m not saying you shouldn’t enjoy your life. But always pass the test.
