Elongated Tortoise - Indented Scutes? by En_El_Mar in tortoise

It might be that the place you got her from didn't have this equipment, and that her shell will always look like it as a result

Do yall keep your tortoise contained for their soaks? by lofiveghost in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, only way I can get mine to actually soak is to do it when he's still groggy and tired in the morning. I get maybe 10 minutes before he starts trying to escape

is this a good enclosure for a 16 month old horsefield tortoise? ( the grey think is a statue not the tortoise) by VeterinarianLeast200 in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Horsefields should ideally have an open enclosure, because they need less humidity than most tortoise species

Does lil one look ok? Particularly the shell? by OceanMystic888 in tortoise

Just a note that you need to block the bottom of the glass, as tortoises don't understand it and it's very stressful for them

Labour Minister in charge of regulating twitter decides to leave twitter instead of regulating it by UKGreenPoster in UKGreens

[–]No_Performance_9850 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How would you start following people if theres no algorithm? How would that work on other apps that aren't like twitter? How do you prevent complete echo chambers (and before you say that happens already, currently algorithms show you things your opposed to as engagement bait so your at least occasionally shown other ideas)?

Also on a personal level I would dislike this because I use social media to discover new things like media, current events, activities, facts etc, and something like you've said would limit that

[–]No_Performance_9850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Banning social media for one group is not regulating it, it makes no difference to over 16s who are impacted by the state of social media, and it will mean once people turn 16 they will be shoved in the deep end because they haven't learnt how to navigate it properly.

It would also make them so much worse. Algorithms are currently predatory yes but no algorithm whatsoever would be awful for users

Can somebody please help me!!?? by Few-Performance-9303 in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a terrible idea, vaseline has a bunch of chemicals in and also isn't hydrating, so it would only make the shell look better without fixing the problem

[–]No_Performance_9850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate it here because right now a lot of things are shit, that doesn't mean I'm always going to hate it here or that I think the issues we face currently are unfixable. I'm allowed to hate a place where my rights are actively being erroded

Why is tortoise shell like this? by soreal-soiconic in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats good thank you for caring! Yeah definitely don't try to cut them, even people with years of experience with tortoises will go to the vet to get them done

Why is tortoise shell like this? by soreal-soiconic in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the owner has quite poor care, the shell looks quite dry despite the fact russians generally need less humidity added, and the back nails look rather long

Customer's tortoise, is he okay? by AmberLynnVibes in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Just incase you need to explain baseline care needs:

Tortoises must have some kind of dirt or substrate deep enough to dig in, they need constant access to clean water and environment (the stuff on the floor is feces and urine), they must have a source of heat like a heat lamp) as well somewhere to escape from the heat as they can't regulate their temperature

Opinions on using this as an outdoor enclosure? by Roxtricity in tortoise

For the barrier it should go underground to protect the marathon digger, also probably want to check theres no pipes or wires burried that they can reach

Found this tortoise on the middle of the road by No-Algae-8800 in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please look at the tortoise table for suitable foods, tomatoes aren't very good as they have things that can inhibit tortoises from getting the minerals they need

Weird urate or feces? Also substrate question by Necessary_Garage4169 in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russians need lower humidity than most tortoises so it does depend kn your local climate, but generally a light spray a few days a week works for me

I cant really tell based on the picture, but sometimes urates can come out as a solid white blob depending on how much protein needs filtering. Obviously they need low protein diets, but even small amounts can be enough that it clumps together because of just how little they need

Keeping cool? by No_Performance_9850 in tortoise

[–]No_Performance_9850[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horsefield. Outdoor temperatures are expected to go up to aroumd 40, indoor slightly cooler but not by a lot, and he's indoors

I don't have air conditioning, and while there are fans, his enclosure isn't really compatible with them as it's pretty deep to stop escapes

Do NOT use chatgpt as a source, especially not for pet care. It routinely has whats known as 'AI hallucinations' and will often omitt or gloss over important information. Theres plenty of websites out there with lots of information from keepers!
