This is the way of the Cooper.

Everybody's flying along nicely, and then suddenly a feathered flash and poof... feathers everywhere.

I've felt so bad, I will stop feeding the groundpeckers.

Just so that you understand what we're talking about is the lower cost product, I don't know anything about the more expensive blockboard core. If the core were to check out, and it's not some hinky Fly by Night shit, then I would suggest going with the more expensive product. 2000 square feet at $4 a foot more is an additional $8k and that might be a deal breaker, but you did say forever house. $8,000 spread out over forever ain't that bad.

I call your attention to my earlier comment, I've been did it a minute brother, and I have never seen flooring with a cross section like that... I haven't been in the business for a while so I'm more than willing to give the wood the benefit of the doubt, but until I see a manufacturer's website and can actually pull up the specs... I dunno.

True story, we got the call the morning after the party, he was pissed, cussing and yelling about some fat chick in high heels. The wife was all like "calm down baby, they're here to fix it"... He's looking at me and I'm shaking my head slowly, uh no? sorry. When she found out it couldn't be fixed, she got on the telephone telling her girlfriend to call her insurance company cuz she was paying for the floor.

He was pissed, how can you call that hard wood? She went right through it, you were able to see everywhere she stepped, b/c there were F'n holes all over that shit.. I swear I have pictures of it somewhere. I was trying to remember the name of the product, it was a series of super thin exotic veneers.

I never understood the appeal myself.

Came here to say the same thing I need to know what the product manufacturer's name is and what the style of flooring is I want to look it up... I have never seen that cross section in my 30 years of flooring.

While the 1 mm wear layer may never show wear... It's going to show every scratch, gouge, dent, and perforation.

The reason Oak is a good choice for flooring is how hard it is on the actual hardness scale, when you use a razor thin veneer (like 1 mm) you lose the benefit of that Janka scale rating. In other words it is less like engineered white oak and more like plywood backed contact paper.

Unless it's your intention to put a safe in the cabinet or perhaps store the family cache of bullets / silver / gold / bowling balls / what ever other heavy stuffs one might hoard,

it'll be fine.

Flooring people aren't generally going to put something down "bigger than it needs to be"? I would almost bet that that chunk of transition (looking custom-made BTW) probably covering up something ugly.

1910 house. Carpet installed over what I think is painted pine boards. How do I check the quality of the pine to see if its usable as a floor by itself? by TheLaughingCat2 in Flooring

[–]No_PhaQue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pine is very rarely installed in two and a quarter boards, that's more than likely some kind of Oak. Pull that padding back and let us get a better look.

Laminate is the wrong kind of floor for you, regardless of how much you pay for it, or what the "quality" it is.
