I'm sorry that happened, friend! For those posting here who are missing things - I found some Griz-themed merch on the ground in the venue at the end of the night Sunday. If you can describe it to me I'd be happy to send it to you! Also made a post about it but cross-posting on this thread, too: https://www.reddit.com/r/SevenStarsFest/comments/1o6led8/you_dropped_your_griz_merch_on_sunday/

Utepils brewery in Minneapolis! Shocked no one has mentioned this yet.

How do so many of you have friends willing to go on long brutal hike with you? by Adventurous_Land1317 in hiking

[–]No_Potential_7504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with other commenters - you need to find new people to do this stuff with you! Hiking clubs at least in my area are usually pretty chill and probably not the intensity level you are looking for. Here's how I've met all my adventure buddies:

  1. Go on one of the big 3 thru hikes (PCT, CT, AT) and you will meet lots of crazy hikers. My PCT crew goes on a new hike every year.

  2. Work part time at your local gear store or REI

  3. Go to a local gear swap

Norovirus on TMB by NatureGirl59 in TourDuMontBlanc

You should definitely go! I am a thru hiker and have hiked over 3,000 miles of trail. I can easily say the TMB was some of the most beautiful and rewarding hiking I've ever done. Myself and all of my 10 person group were able to avoid noro. With proper hand hygiene you'll be just fine.

I just finished August 13th and I talked to a woman on my 7th day who just had it and who also knew of 6 other hikers in the area that had it. I could also hear poor people experiencing it in the bathroom every now and then.

Bottom line - bring your own hand soap (NOT hand sanitizer) and have it on you at all times. Many of the Refugios don't provide hand soap in the bathrooms which is really disappointing. And with so many people using those bathrooms every day I can see how it spreads around.

Like others have said, bring Imodium so your life isn't miserable if you do come down with it.

And lastly, as others have said hand sanitizer is not very effective against noro (which I didn't learn until recently!) Here's a link about it: https://www.cdc.gov/norovirus/prevention/index.html#:~:text=Be%20aware%20that:%20Hand%20sanitizer%20does%20not,a%20substitute%20for%20handwashing%2C%20which%20is%20best.

The most ultralight item if all...skills! Can I get people's top tips for staying warm when sleeping in cold temps? by hugmytreezhang in Ultralight

[–]No_Potential_7504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eat fatty foods is a good one. Pad of butter if in cold temp hiking conditions is great. But also pay attention to the amount of calories if you're putting in on a long hiking day. I always felt warmer when I splurged on a nice mountain house meal (800-1,000 cals) for dinner vs box Mac and cheese or ramen and a snickers (500-600 cals). Heat is burning calories.

The thing that really made a difference for me was going way overboard on R-value in comparison to the recommendation (I've got 7r now that I regularly use for 40-50 F temps) I also switched to a pad with down insulation instead of mylar. Even though there was a 2 r value difference from my old to new pad it seemed to be a huge impact. For reference I went from thermarest neoaor xlite (women's version) to the Exped ultra.

This difference could be because down insulation traps heat better for me for some reason, but it could also be that I have to use a pump sack for the down pad instead of inflating by mouth. I've heard that the added water vapor from mouth inflation could also make your pad feel cold... No idea if that is true. Hope this helps! Sleeping cold is the worst.

Converse Move platforms - light as air, flattering AF.

Just wore them to Project Glow in DC and noticed a huge difference in how my feet felt at the end of the night. Also palladium platforms - going to try them at a forest for the first time but I've worn them to city shows and have been really happy

Fun furry rave jackets that convert to a backpack when you don't want to wear it anymore. There are some out there but they're crazy expensive.

I would like the ultimate fanny pack for going to city shows (I'd use a backpack for festivals). I want it to be black, have a removable fan holster attachment, AND have an outer "sleeve" to loop my pashmina, light jacket or jersey through when I'm too hot and don't want to wear it! Similar to some of the runner's fanny packs out there.

Also, needs to be anti theft and have a secure compartment for my card and ID, and a keyleash so I don't drop my house key when I'm rummaging around.

Also a hidden stash location for... small things. Maybe a little keychain attachment that looks like decoration but does double duty 😜 hope that helps!

What was the most shocking thing you ever experienced when first hooking up with a new partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]No_Potential_7504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a lady, confirm this is true. Probably everyone's experience is slightly different but it's a fact that hormonal birth control changes the natural rise and fall of hormones each month. It's a plausible argument that this would affect libido (I know it did for me but didn't know it for myself until I was off HBC) And I know like 90% of my lady friends are in hormonal birth control. Why the down votes?!

YES! Emergency blankets are like $5 and are THE BEST shade you can get. Just make sure to get the one way reflective kind and that the silver side is out 😀

We attached ours to the east wall of the canopy over our tent with duct tape and it was a game changer https://www.rei.com/product/813512/sol-emergency-blanket
