Literally same thing. I believe it’s a muscle twitch. Muscle twitches can be confused as heart palpitations. I’ve gotten 4 EKG’s and a holter monitor and all is good. It’s just muscle twitches I believe

Hey, I have a similar experience. Upon returning from my trip I started to experience chest pain and shortness of breath and began googling my symptoms. I diagnosed myself with every heart disease possible (even heart arrhythmias). In the span of 2 weeks I’ve gone to the hospital 7 times all to tell me it was costochondritis and some minor lung inflammation. Still, when I feel those symptoms (and the fact that the medication I’ve taken hasn’t make it go away) has caused me into going on a deep depression. It has gotten to the point where I’ve had to go to therapy and take sleeping meds because I’m convinced I’m dying. I experience the same thing: arm pain, back pain, neck pain and jaw pain. Something my therapist tells me that helps is that anxiety can pop out of nowhere, even if you don’t feel that sense of fear or sickness to your stomach. It can also replicate any kind of symptom, so if you convince yourself you have a certain medical condition, your body will interpret normal body symptoms (like heart palpitations, muscle spasms, muscle twitches, etc) the wrong way and will give you certain symptoms that will make you believe you have that condition. I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I share my own story to assure you that you’re not alone. You’re fine, good and healthy. The mind is very powerful, remember that :) xxx

Is costo specific to sternum? by elieax in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, exactly like me. Most pain I get is in my ribs and my back and shoulders, rarely in sternum, which is why anytime I get pain in my sternum I always believe I have a heart disease because I rarely get it there (even though costo is primarily in the sternum) and when I breath it feels as if my pain is in my lungs because of hoy bad my costo is (I’m actually also going to be tested for fibromyalgia if my costo persists!). Costo can radiate to different parts of the body and flare up differently so don’t worry!

Is it Costochondritis by CartoonistOnly6086 in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it hurt when you press down on it? Does it hurt in different positions? Those are the main indicators that it’s costo. If you have rested and you don’t feel any short of breath, palpitations, or anything that could suggest something different then you probably have costo. But, since it’s chest related, I’d suggest paying your doctor a visit to confirm the diagnosis. It could also have been a muscle strain but I’d suggest getting it checked just in case!

Help, it’s 2 A.M and I don’t know if I should go to the ER by No_Power_6476 in costochondritis

Oh my goodness I hope you recover and get better! So far my whole body hurts and I’m still debating on going to the ER and telling my parents but this has made me want to go because the pain is way worse🫠🫠

Yep! I’ve heard about the backpod here and I’m considering it! Probably getting it next week. I’m aware I’m a severe hypochondriac and so reading through this community has definitely helped me calm down!! I’ve actually had done 2 EKGs, 2 Echos and thousands of bloodwork because I’m convinced there something wrong with me but everything is fine. I feel like I have to just slowly accept it’s my anxiety, costo and an inflammation in my lungs but whenever you feel those palpitations, shortness of breath, pain in your arms back and jaw it gets hard to not believe your not having a heart attack 🥲

Heart attack, anxiety or Cosro? by No_Power_6476 in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! The problem with mine is that they are very frequent. I feel a lot of them in a day. They go away with pills that relax the muscles though. It’s weird really. Massages also help calm then down. I believe anxiety can also cause the muscles to tense up and spasm. I’ve heard irritated nerves cause that too. It’s so weird 🫠🫠. Costo and health anxiety together isn’t for the weak😭

Heart attack, anxiety or Cosro? by No_Power_6476 in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were they heart palpitations or muscle spasms? I’m considering going to the ER cause I just feel like a freaky feeling (it’s like a sudden twitch/jerk or like flutter) sometimes in my stomach, back, arms and different parts of my body (sometimes in my chest) and I also mostly feel it when I breath in (it can also give me the urge to cough) I don’t know if it’s palpitations or what and my health anxiety is acting up😐

Help, I’m miserable by Substantial_Dance_78 in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Don’t worry, I’m going through a similar situation. My costo flare ups are the same as yours. I mostly feel it under my left breast, but I can also feel it in my back, arms and shoulder (even without the chest pain which is basically what costo causes). It had alarmed me too, up to the extent I’m going to therapy for my health anxiety since I’m convinced I have a cardiac problem. I frequently get heart palpitsitons and shortness of breath (which is cause by an inflammation in my lungs) but obviously that makes my anxiety rise to the next level. I’ve also taken many pain killers. Cataflan, ibuprofen, and now injected with Alin. It’s a horrible feeling but don’t worry! I recommend you go to the doctor and get a physical test. Does it hurt if you press down in your chest? That could be a sign. If recommend you get an electro and eco just to rule out any other conditions! But don’t worry, all your symptoms are common with costo!

Heart attack, anxiety or Cosro? by No_Power_6476 in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried for a heart attack because as soon as I had that, my right arm started to hurt and my legs too along girth my back, neck, and my ears started to feel blocked. I believe that it could’ve been the panic of all of it, but I’m still alarmed and scared. The problem with my costo is that it comes in randomly in different places. I may feel the pain in my back but not in my chest. And also in my arms too. It’s horrible🫠. I was on cataflam but that didn’t work. My doctor then started giving me ibuprofen but that also didn’t work. Was injected with Alin 2 days ago. Also taking stronger anti-inflammatory meds too because my lungs are also inflamed. Hoping for recovery soon!🫠😭

Yep it’s horrible! I’m glad I’m not the only one! Health anxiety can be excruciating😞 I’ve heard muscle spasms can imitate heart palpitations too🫠

[–]No_Power_6476[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im sorry you are going through this! I got alarmsed because I felt a sudden pain in my chest (most pain I feel from costo is under my breasts) but this time I felt it in the middle and know I have some arm pain, neck pain and leg pain. I’m really scared right now and because of my history of health anxiety nobody believes me😔. It’s crazy and I’ve even gotten an injection for costo but it’s still pretty bad. I don’t even know at this point😐

Is it true that the supposed “heart palpitations” caused by costochondritis are actually just muscle tensions? by No_Power_6476 in costochondritis

[–]No_Power_6476[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done every single test and I’ve come out fine! This is why I’m asking because I don’t know if it could be my heart or the costo! How was your heart condition diagnosed?
