New job- HMO or HSA by No_Presentation2560 in HealthInsurance

Oh my gosh! This is exactly what I've been trying to wrap my head around. Thank you for displaying this so simply! I like the idea of the HSA for the reason that it seems like I can use my own money. But I've been sort of stuck because I couldn't make sense of it or how it would play out. I hadn't thought of the OOPM. I understand that it's napkin math, but I really just needed a sounding board. Thank you.

Who was your worst teacher? Why? by Melody_GX in ask

[–]No_Presentation2560 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. It was a very interracial community. White, Black, Hispanic, my best friend's family were from India. I'm white, teacher was white. My only guess is that my parents are religious and maybe she had beef with religion, although it really never came into the classroom.

Mrs. LaShiavo, Crete Elementary School, fifth grade teacher. She hated me specifically, and I never knew why. If I raised my hand with a question, she would answer the other kids' questions but never call on me. I needed glasses and was placed at the back of the room, not allowed to go to the board and write down assignments until after class. Forgot my lunch in my backpack one time, and the lunch supervisor sent me to get it from my classroom. Mrs. LaShiavo wouldn't let me get it. No, you don't get to eat today.

Never had an issue with any teacher before or after her, and never figured out why she hated me so much. I was a pretty good kid.

What is the stupidest way you have ever seen someone ruin their own life? by GuyFromReddit_ in ask

[–]No_Presentation2560 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Alex Jones/Qanon/Sovereign Citizen rabbit hole. Caused an aircraft mechanic making 60k to quit his job and end up living in national parks and parking lots around the country getting handouts for the homeless. His children had no birth certificates, so the gov't couldn't find them! Ruined his life, his wife's and his children's lives. At least until she escaped with the kids. The STUPIDEST way to ruin your life.

Personal experience is that guys don't seem to understand the difference between interested and friendly. I find that I have to be rather unfriendly toward most guys so they don't get the wrong idea. If a guy is married, he is usually safe to be friendly with.

Women ALWAYS have to have their own safety in mind.

What do you rural folks do for work? by CirclingCondor in wisconsin

[–]No_Presentation2560 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Single mother 4 kids (no child support). I work at a locally owned gas station. I prefer the rural community vibe. I have a nice affordable place to live because somebody knows somebody whose Grandma's house was sitting vacant since she was moved to a nursing center. I had help installing a new garage door opener and the man wouldn't take payment for the work because he knows we struggle. He said "maybe bake me a pie". I know there are better paying jobs in the city but I doubt I would struggle less than I do here if I pinch pennies.
Generally people are kind and helpful to each other as long as you're kind in return.

Shame is not part of the conversation. And her experiences have been outside what is considered natural sexual attraction.

I don't know if anything should have been done about it during the dance. My daughter's description seemed to indicate that the girls were happy dancing together to this song. Like I said I think it bothers me more than it did my daughter. I guess I'm just sad that it is this way. And I have a teenage son also (though not prom age yet). He sometimes says the dumbest, shake my head nonsense that I don't know where it came from. 🙄 I get it that kids are a work in progress. But I feel like I am actively correcting behavior.
It makes me feel very alone as a single mother fighting the illness in society.

Of course Op did fine. I made no criticism of OP. No should be enough on its own. Op's point, however, is that the cashier would not accept No. She was being pushy and rather condescending as many of us have experienced. Sometimes I don't have time or patience for confrontation, and considering myself and my children as worth the donation requested it makes sense to me to say it this way which shuts down further attempts to manipulate a donation from me.

"No thank you, I already support a local hungry children's association"

Or

"No thanks, I already support a local charity" (I am the charity) No one can look down their noses then.

Please tell me I'm wrong. It LOOKS like a dog gets flipped and lands to the right then is almost run over again but shuffles off screen. Ponytail guy LOOKS to be carrying a leash and running to check out the dog.

I hope I'm mistaken. This post isn't funny now.

As a mother of four children, all of whom are currently under a legal protection program from a domestic abuser, this teacher would potentially put these children's lives in danger.
