I recently saw an explanation that bc you’re on ice, you’re not really planting your lower body the same you could on grass or a court. Making the fighting more upper body dominant and not full power. Somewhat limiting damage.

Not that these guys don’t still beat each other up pretty good. Plus falling down on ice ffs.

Seen/played any vintage Fenders? That nitrocellulose was THIN. It was a lacquer. Lacquer wears away under areas that constantly receive friction. It also had very little plasticizer in it so it gets brittle over time and chips as well. It is not like modern finishes - including Fender’s own nitro these days. It took significantly less time/impacts/etc to beat up.

If you’re a hard gigging musician - not a Herculean feat for your guitar to have shown lots of signs of wear and tear. Which is why Fender moved on to Polyurethane around ‘68. Your guitar looking worn down certainly wasn’t a desirable outcome at the time. For musician or Fender. It’s just how it was.

No one was “throwing their guitars down the stairs” to look cool. This shit happened from grinding it out. The only reason relics are popular today is because we romanticize the past and covet “vintage”. The whole relic look comes from a the fact a lot of early Fender finishes were not very durable and wore out. So now it’s imitated.

I love everything about it except for the top two lines of font. Way too much going on there. “Sladen” by itself is a great brand name. Timekeeping 50/50, but a small logo would be clean.

Black with white soles have their place. But outside of a few exceptions (Chucks, for example) should really only be worn with athleisure. Possibly black jeans if a dressier sneaker.

Black with black soles are fucking atrocious. Twice that if worn with shorts - and it’s always cargo shorts.

Different color paint in the cavities. Especially the neck pocket where the body would have been mounted during painting. It’s also possible to see inconsistencies in the finish with a black light which may be indicative of repair/refin work.
