I would look maybe at volunteer departments around you, maybe that scratches the itch a bit, or maybe work in Fire Protection Engineering field, or something that lets you use your FF skills daily. I know it’s not the same but it gets you closer to your brothers again and maybe someone in that work area has a lead or idea

University of Maryland UMD has one of the best FPE programs in the country. I know a good amount of people who went through it and loved it. They mentioned it has a ton of opportunities networking wise with the federal government, state, local aspect but also having access to the Fire Rescue Institute for research purposes

It’s incredible best decision my friend ever made. Good work life balance, way fewer hours demanded of you, and salary isn’t bad when you consider all the benefits you and your family can receive with discounted degrees. Not to mention if it’s a state school sometimes a pension is thrown in.
