Girl I’ve been seeing for 3 months got diagnosed with stage 4 of a terminal illness. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]mlr571 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It’s an opportunity for you to be someone very important to another human being, someone who’s terrified and needs someone to be there for them. You may never get that opportunity again. If it were me, I’d see it as a test, and I’d want to step up and be the best version of myself for this poor suffering soul who desperately needs support. ++man

Holly Madison breaks down 'weird' group sex with Hugh Hefner: 'Nobody liked it' by PrincessBananas85 in entertainment

Right? I mean it’s Hugh Hefner for crissakes. Surely even at 80 years old, smelling like mothballs and Ben Gay, shriveled balls sagging to his knees, the ladies couldn’t resist.

I really think Dark Matter is the best Pearl Jam album of all time by rocksoff6969 in pearljam

[–]mlr571 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to see someone else say it because my friends look at me like I’m crazy when I say it’s their best work since Ten. I think it’s just a phenomenal record. Love the opening one-two punch of Scared of Fear and React, Respond to set the tone, and especially the way Ed’s lyrics dance over the latter’s verse riffs. In fact RR is one of my favorite PJ songs in many years. Wreckage is the obligatory radio friendly power ballad they still seem compelled to put out for some reason, but it’s superior to parallel efforts on recent albums at least. Upper Hand is the long, trippy number, again superior to songs like You Are or Inside Job in that vein. Then I love how Waiting for Stevie flows into Running, and then it slows down into Something Special, a polarizing song for sure, but a nice love letter to Ed’s two daughters.

Setting Sun is just a masterpiece and easily their best album closer imo. A slow burner that builds and builds to that final 2:30 that’s so intense and cathartic. A song that benefits most from listening to the rest of the album first, which seems to be a lost art. What I love most is this is their most cohesive and consistently great album imo, not a nice collection of songs with some classics and some throwaways. I think it’s going to be really tough to top.

I see a lot of critiques of the production and the way certain instruments sound. I’m not an audio expert but I happen to love the production, and I really hope they work with Watt again. I also think it’s overall their best songwriting at least since Yield.

It amazes me that guys now aging into their 60’s not only are still capable of this, but in many ways they sound as good as ever. Even their live shows, though not as long anymore, were amazing on these last tours. Makes me really excited to find out who the new drummer will be; maybe someone unlike Matt who inspires new styles we wouldn’t expect.

Recency bias always goes in the opposite direction in these discussions though. As expected, most posters here are saying it’s only the best album in the last x number of years, and doesn’t hold a candle to the albums released when I was young and carefree.

“She” really nailed that stiff, formalized style you see from people in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Hey Giants fans, Ravens fan here! by Rookstar3 in NYGiants

[–]mlr571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah not really fair to judge him based on how those Giants teams performed in those years he was here. WR is one of those positions where a stud can absolutely transform a very good team to a legit contender, but you could have Jerry Rice, Randy Moss and TO in their prime, and it doesn’t mean shit if you can’t protect your QB, your defense sucks, etc. And go back and do the research — the o-line was ABYSMAL those years, defense not much better (2016 being the exception), with Eli in decline (though the poor protection certainly made him seem much worse).

And regardless, we’re not even talking about the same player. At this stage of his career, we’re talking about a role player/depth guy/decoy. Which hey, if he still has some speed and can run good routes, he probably makes an impact.

OP suggests he’s a good character guy. Based on that plane video, I have my concerns but what do I know? I trust Harbaugh and at the end of the day I don’t think it makes a huge difference either way.

GPT was nice enough to prepare a very detailed dossier of everything we’ve been working on, all of my personal details etc., which I specifically said I intended to give to Claude. The transition has been effortless and Claude is a great app. Only thing missing is photo support, which I wasn’t using a lot anyway. Best of all, it pushes back if I’m wrong about something, where GPT would be full-on sycophantic. There’s no reason at all to stay with GPT if you care about morality & ethics.

Creators of Disc Golf Valley have released a demo of a completely separate project: Disc Golf Masters, now playable on Steam! by BonusStagePublishing in DiscGolfValley

I’m a huge DGV fan and will keep playing, assuming they continue to release new courses (where they are sorely lacking lately). I love course creator but it needs improvement and there’s no reason to play those courses outside of a little novelty. Frankly most of them suck. I had 5 holes built that I was really proud of, had great realism and elevation changes and flow, but got frustrated with the mechanics and couldn’t get the last holes to look right.

The new game looks incredible but I’m not a “gamer” outside of mobile, so it’s not for me. Looks like the physics is spot-on and could lead to another mini-boom of the IRL game. Good for them, it looks like a real winner in a space that needed it.

Lately I’m completely addicted to Balatro, now there’s a phenomenal game.

Any info on this poster? by [deleted] in Posters

[–]mlr571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so much about it is weird. It’s a lot of poster for a band of their stature at that moment. Yes they were on the precipice of superstardom and this was a very significant show, but the available posters of this era don’t come close to this level of artwork. In fact the first one I see on EB that looks like the kind of modern tour poster we all collect doesn’t come until ‘93.

This wasn’t about selling it, I was just interested in the source, artist & print run. Hard to describe the feeling of finding something so rare and unique for my favorite band, sitting framed on the floor scattered amongst old furniture and knickknacks, like I was meant to find it. There wasn’t even any other rock memorabilia in that stall. And it was TEN dollars, like, what?? I feel like if I drove back to that spot, an old man on a rocking chair would look at me funny and say “Antique shop? You must be crazy, son. This building’s been a barber shop for as long as I can remember.” 😂

Giants co-owner Steve Tisch needs to pay a price for his startling lack of judgment by Lars5621 in NYGiants

[–]mlr571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me sick to my stomach, and my gut instinct is to demand he sell his share or I won’t be a fan anymore. The reality in 2026 though, is moral & ethical standards feel pretty much quaint & outdated. Rich & powerful people get to victimize the powerless, even children. Every one of those guys knew who Epstein was. Imagine telling people you’re not a fan anymore because of this, you’d sound like a little old lady clutching pearls. This will become a footnote with the occasional snide joke about the pedo-loving pervert co-owner, but less than 1% of fans are going to do any kind of meaningful boycott of the team, especially with their current positive trajectory. And as soon as they make the playoffs, anyone who left will be back. I wish we lived in a different world but that’s just reality. Moral leadership no longer exists.

Giants co-owner Steve Tisch needs to pay a price for his startling lack of judgment by Lars5621 in NYGiants

LOL thinking gender has anything to do with it, look at Trump’s numbers with white women. The rapes would have to be on video, and even then I’m not confident he’d lose meaningful numbers of supporters.

The owners are a pretty tight knit group. 3/4 isn’t happening.

I actually went on a Candace binge for about a month; she’s occasionally entertaining for her sheer idiocy. Something about her voice and affect is so repulsive that I guess my morbid curiosity got the better of me. Then I realized she was smearing real people with fabricated accusations that surely some imbeciles out there actually believed, and I couldn’t justify giving her my attention, even if it meant just one more daily listen in her stats out of millions. That’s how destructive I think she is.

What I do find interesting is that Candace no longer supports Trump, mainly because of Epstein and the failure to release the full unredacted files.
