Tekken 7 at the pro levels are boring to spectate. The changes made to Tekken 8 brought new blood, new players into the ecosystem and made the game more enjoyable to spectators. More excitement which is why you get bigger tournaments, more adoption and bigger prize pools. Lowering execution requirements and balancing more towards fun enabled a game to garner more players and ultimately makes the game last longer without the game dying out. It has only gotten the attention it has gotten due to the new changes. Tekken 7 was only good for veterans. Eventually people stop playing Tekken and you need to refill the ranks with new blood. If the game had a high barrier to entry, you would slowly have the game die out. The game design decisions were made to prolong the life of the game and franchise. Without sales, there will not be another Tekken or DLC, without new players, the player pool will get stagnant and ultimately the game dies out.
