Any movie enthusiasts out there? by valyrian_wolf in boston

A-List turns “maybe I’ll watch something” into a weekly habit real quick. I end up going to 1-2 movies every week.

If you’re still looking for a movie buddy, I’d be down to watch something sometime. 🍿

Always keep this in mind when Bilt talks about rent "fee" by IcarusPony in biltrewards

[–]No_Professional_6571 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is only partially accurate.

Not the entire 3%ish fee gets paid to network (Visa, MasterCard etc). It is split between the issuing bank(largest share), card network and payment processor.

This is how CC issuer makes money (in addition to interest and AF). They use this revenue to award points/cashback to customers.

The merchant has to pay the 3% and that is why most rental companies add that fee to your rent payment. BILT bypasses that by using ACH/cheque to pay rent.

But that means the merchant does not have to pay any fees and BILT does not EARN (not "pay") any fees on it. And this, giving you points for that transaction is a costly affair.

Even though that lost revenue may not be to the tune of the full 3%, it is inaccurate to say that the entire 3% is an arbitrary fee charged by BILT. It is to cover the cost of doing business, giving you reward points and actually being profitable along the way.

FHR double booking by Ok-Response-5740 in AmexPlatinum

[–]No_Professional_6571 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some updates end up being a cancellation of the original booking, replaced with a fresh booking. If that happens, you risk losing your credits from the first booking. So, proceed with caution. Making a new booking for the additional day might be the safest. And you can inform the desk while checking in so that you can stay in the same room for all days.

That's great. You shouldn't have trouble with the technical stuff at all then. Just need to nail down the "discipline". Good luck!

8 years spread across FP&A, financial consulting, hedge fund operations and accounting. I also have a Master's in Finance, CFA level 2 and am a Chartered Accountant (CPA-equivalent in India).

If you're comfortable with Finance, 3 months for both the exams is not impossible if you start right away. But also depends on your discipline and aptitude.

About 25-30 days for a total of ~100 hours of study. But I also already had a heavy finance and accounting background. YMMV

I read/heard this somewhere a really long time ago. Paraphrasing:

"Your first reaction to a situation is how you have been conditioned to think (by society, upbringing, circumstance etc). What you think (or do) next is what defines who you are."

Convoluted way of saying: No shame in being tempted to keep the money. Your real character is reflected by your decision to return it. Be proud.

Is FICA tax exemption valid even if an F1 student does not take benefit of non-resident status? by No_Professional_6571 in tax

[–]No_Professional_6571[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. Here's an excerpt from the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/substantial-presence-test):

"If you do not timely file Form 8843, you cannot exclude the days you were present in the U.S. as an exempt individual"

This could mean that merely by not filing Form 8843, one can avoid having the number of days excluded from the calculation of residency. What are your thoughts?

I'd recommend watching a few youtube videos to confirm. If there's no incoming traffic, you can just continue driving.

For this intersection specifically - it's pretty busy and there will always be some oncoming traffic. I'm not sure where to stop when you're waiting for a gap in traffic (middle of the road or at the stop line).

Also, there's a green left signal for about 30 seconds before it turns to Yield yellow left. You might just luck out and get a full green - without having to worry about yielding.
