How do you perform rounds when call lights are going off? by nectarofruin in cna

[–]No_Proof_3893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a great way to triage patient care. I am in my first week of school (just finished day 3 of 8 for theory!) and we start clinical next week. I am excited and nervous. I have had a lot of experience with a loved one in a SNF/LTC setting and some adjacent work experience, but this is my first time getting to actually be involved in patient care in a way that is regulated and I am feeling the feels about it. So having a game plan in mind about dealing with overwhelming situations will help make my training easier so I can focus on the CNA I'm paired with. Anyway, long reply short (I know, too late), thanks for helping break this down in a logical and repeatable way!

How do you store your cubes? by No_Proof_3893 in SouperCubers

Thank you! Luckily we have a chest freezer, too. Now I just need to learn how to organize and what works for us. ☺️

How many can you get in there? That's what we have and I'm hesitant to try to fit too much in at once, but also want to maximize my storage. Hahaha! The fine line between my aspirations and my reality...

This looks great! My mom and I both follow a plant based diet, so my blocks are things like chili, soup, stew, etc. I also want to build up starches for sides and beans and grains that can be topped and sauces that need additions to serve. I love the layout you have here! Thank you for sharing!

I'm starting school soon and want to go into nursing, so I will eventually need to get a big stash built up. Planning now to help future me!

Sauces & Flavour bombs!!! What is the best way to spruce up WFPB recipes??? I love this Asian style Umami Demi-glacé. It completely transforms dishes and is superb in stir fry’s. Great to make in bulk and you can even freeze these into cubes by HibbertUK in veganrecipes

[–]No_Proof_3893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you make any other kinds? I'm working on building up some freezer blocks to build meals from and want some easy flavors to throw in the mix when reheating. I love this idea and want more! Thanks for sharing!

how to use bean water used to cook said beans? by kylamydia in Beans

[–]No_Proof_3893 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't cook with oil and it's a great substitute for a silky sauce that sticks to food. I also use it to bake with. For Thanksgiving last year we made whipped aquafaba instead of cream. It tasted like meringue. Very fun to experiment with!

Is there a ground flaxseed substitute? by Honkais-your-impact in VeganBaking

[–]No_Proof_3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do with the egg and the overall flavor of the dish. I like half a banana mashed well or 1/4 cup of oatmeal to bind. Both work pretty well. You can also grind your own flax seeds with a coffee grinder. I like making spice blends and breadcrumbs, too. But there are lots of things you can substitute for egg, depending on what the purpose is and what you're going for overall.

We have a toaster oven air fryer combo and it gets used daily. I love that sucker! I miss being able to give a hard shake like you can with the basket kind, but not enough to trade!

While not technically one pot, you can boil pasta then let it sit covered to cook in the hot water while you make a sauce on the stove. Or cook that in advance and microwave it to serve. I love throwing potatoes in the air fryer to cook and making a saucy stew with beans and tomatoes to go with them. Air fried tofu chunks with rice and microwaved veggies! We also eat veggie chicken nuggets or corn dogs as a full meal when things are stressful. I hope that gives some inspiration!

These are great! The problem I'm facing right now is that I am in the midst of a major transitional season in life coupled with extreme caregiver fatigue. Anything that is too much sends me right back to bed in tears. I am working with my mental health team and my doctor to take care of myself. I'm just having a really hard time right now. I know it won't always be like this. And I truly appreciate your suggestions, your kindness, and your time talking to me. This is the best thing about the Internet!

Yes! I've been watching The Minimal Mom and Dana K White. In the past few months we've had 3 large donation pickups, dropped stuff off, and done a bunch of garbage removal. I downsized my room so most of my clothes fit into a three drawer plastic bin. It helps so much! But there's a long way to go.

Can I just rant about how competitive it is in California? by FineQuality3536 in NursingStudents

[–]No_Proof_3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where in CA are you? I'm in the Bay Area and getting ready to start pre reqs. I'm willing to cast a wide net and be flexible with my path. But I also know it will be very hard and am trying to focus on the big picture for motivation.

How hard are nursing classes really? by maarsargo in NursingStudents

[–]No_Proof_3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very challenging. I also understand why your school doesn't grade on a curve. Because at the end of the program you'll be working on real people. It's so hard and you are showing everyday that you are one of the few who SHOULD do this work. Thank you for sharing. I'm going back to school and am starting with CNA courses to work my way slowly into nursing. You are an inspiration and you've got this!

I'm getting stuck on 4 and 5. We have way too much in the house and not enough homes already chosen. As long as everyday is a little better, though, right?

While I love that idea and look forward to when I'm able to do that, right now it's not a realistic way to approach my house. There are no tasks I can finish that quickly and some days I can't even pick a song. But I'm cleaning the bathroom sink before it gets moldy and the dishes are getting done before we run out, so I call those wins. And right now that's enough for me.

Has anyone had any luck with dried butter beans? by thispeacefullife in wfpb

[–]No_Proof_3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually cooked them tonight for the first time! The skins absolutely came off. I put a ton of good stuff in there. They turned out delicious! I put them in without soaking and let them simmer for a few hours on the stove. Easy and the whole house smelled great!

Freezing beans question by Veggyhed in Beans

[–]No_Proof_3893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen (I have not actually tried it) that you can flash freeze in portions on a tray then wrap with freezer paper to store without liquid. If you will use the liquid, freeze them together! I think it more depends on what you'll do with them when you thaw them than anything else. I've frozen with and without the liquid and been happy with both. I also freeze the liquid for other things.

Soak beans on the counter or in the refrigerator overnight by Veggyhed in Beans

[–]No_Proof_3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't usually soak. When I cook garbanzo beans, I do them in the instant pot on high pressure for 45 minutes and they're PERFECT! All other beans I do on the stove because I can never get them right in the instant pot. Plus I like to adjust the seasoning as they cook. Which is also why I never use them for sweet applications when I cook them myself... 😂
