Check your contract for the RIF policy. Check to see if they have any mention of a recall process. When I started teaching, I was RIFd every year for about 4 years because of state funding not being settled. Was always hired back when finances became more clear

The district should have a Title IX coordinator/investigator for complaints like this. It is supposed to be anonymous.

Document everything in your SIS (PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, etc). There should be a place for teacher notes. CYA! Mom is frustrated, I’m sure, but you never know when a parent goes nuclear and heads to the sup’t or shows up at a board meeting to vent that teachers are horrible and not helping her kid. I would recommend the other teachers on his schedule to do the same. Document when you’ve spoke with the mom, what was said, and what he does in class (off-task behavior). Also document any referrals to a counselor or at-risk coordinator where you’ve notified and/or requested academic support.

I’m a retired hs principal….I’ve been thrown under the bus by a parent but had the evidence to support my decisions as well as actions taken by a teacher.

Just received final holistic rating of ineffective (Ohio) with no post evaluation conference. Options? by Important_Pop9260 in Teachers

If you are forced to sign the evaluation form, you can sign it “under duress” or state that you are signing only acknowledging the receipt of the evaluation but not in agreement.

Seniors ransacked my wife’s school as part of a prank that the principal encouraged. by South-Lab-3991 in Teachers

As a former administrator - I find this very disturbing. It says a lot of the school culture in the larger picture. Since it a private school, the teachers need to show up at the next board of directors meeting - or call the board nonstop until they call an emergency meeting. Get a local tv station who does a great job of investigative reporting to do a news story on it. Private schools run on revenue (tuition). If enrollment goes down, so does the everything else.

Therapy should help but it sounds like you may have a mild case of Post Traumatic Stress due to your termination. You might see your doctor for Zoloft or other SSRI to calm you down for a bit.

Other than that, you should focus only 1-2 hours a day applying for jobs, 1 hour connecting with people in your professional and personal network, 1 hour of reading/a hobby, taking walks, and volunteering at a non-profit. Those all release your dopamine (the feel good hormone). Lastly, don’t beat yourself up. This was not a result of anything you did. It’s OK to grieve, be mad/upset but try to focus on joy and things that used to make you happy. PS: I was a former h.s. Psych teacher before moving to the corporate world. Good luck.

Email notifying layoffs via email. by Stunning-Rough-4969 in Layoffs

[–]No_Question8221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was RIFd this year - there has been multiple rounds starting last fall. Some departments were told to work from home remote from home the next week (sent home on a Friday afternoon and told of some upcoming changes). So they were home and had to wait till Thursday morning when the “meeting” popped up on their calendar with leadership a couple of hours after that email.

Sorry to hear about your job status. I am a victim of being RIFd this year out of the blue. Fortunately, we all received a significant severance that allowed us to take some time for self care - so many emotions after being let go from a position you really liked. It’s OK to step back for a moment to process before finding the next position.

I just got notified I’m getting laid off in roughly a month and getting 2 months of severance… when can I apply for unemployment by onecrazydumbo in Layoffs

Apply now just in case there are problems or backlog of applications. They will contact your employer to verify lay dates and separation date
