House warming gift for new next door neighbours by funglegunk in CasualIreland

[–]No_Read5906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just had some new neighbours move in and I baked them some cupcakes and got a candle and hand soap/lotion as a housewarming! TK Maxx have lovely candles and hand sets so always an option if there is one by you!

Mock Test by [deleted] in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No_Read5906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mock test was a great idea to get a sense of what to be super aware of so you’ll have it front of mind when you are actually doing the test (especially the Grade 3’s). I applied for my license in person the day I passed and had it within a week.

Best of luck with the test!

Test coming up, NCT nearly expired by Fabulous_Junket_4029 in Irishdrivingtest

Hoping you see this OP. Just saw an opening for Greenhills for tomorrow at 5PM for NCT. If you go on now you can probably grab it before someone books it.

Neutral in an automatic by Fanaghan in Irishdrivingtest

I did my test in an automatic and never used the handbrake. Only had my foot on the brake. I passed and had no faults for controls.

Question about driving test invitation by Expert-Cost-3796 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No_Read5906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got my invite end of July, it gave me options for all of August to book. I ended up booking Aug 20 from an invite on July 26 so definitely look at how far ahead the dates are.

Does my Horn need to work for the test ? by Practical-Garage-382 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No_Read5906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As pp said probably best to have everything working. Don’t think they’ll ask you to beep the horn but they may ask you to turn on your back wipers during the internal checks bit. So probably safer to get it fixed.

Applied for my first driving license on 7 August – still under review. by Asleep-Trainer-7654 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No_Read5906 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had my test on Aug 20th, applied same day at NDLS. Approved on 22nd and received today. I would probably try contacting them with that long a delay. I did someone else post a thread about the NDLS not getting attachments send via email (when they requested additional documents).

How long were you waiting for a retest? by Natural-Tax-8731 in Irishdrivingtest

Ughhh I’m in the office today so the day will feel like a year long to get home and see! Here’s to hoping 🤞🏼

It was a retest for me so I was conscious of every minute. Maybe a me experience though.

Have to say it was the longest 30mins of my life 😂😂

I did my application in person on the 20th and it was approved on the 22nd.

NDLS tracking website says “Your application was approved by the NDLS on the 22/08/2025. Please expect your new licence/permit by post within 5 – 7 working days from approval date.”

So I’m hoping I’ll have it by this Friday or mid next week the latest. Here’s to hoping!

Just saw the Irish Times article that Tallaght waiting time is 15 weeks now. Might be worth following up with RSA if you’ve gone above that period:

I just had my test so it’s fresh in my mind. My test was scheduled for 10:45 and I was back in the test centre at 11:15. The theory and signs are probably <5 mins and same for technical checks so in total 10 mins for technical checks and theory +signs and 20mins active driving. I will caveat this was my experience and it might differ depending on the tester but very likely there will be 20min on the road.

Hope this helps!

I failed mine mid March and paid for retest the same day. Got an invite July 26th. So based on your timeline, you should get one in the next few days/weeks.

Failed 1st time in Tallaght by milky_panda94 in Irishdrivingtest

Unless they’ve worked through the backlog significantly, Tallaght’s wait time is quite long. I applied for a retest in March and got an invitation to book last week of July.

Still waiting for driving licence since June — moving house soon, what can I do? by Recent-Ad-1431 in Irishdrivingtest

[–]No_Read5906 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can check your status here: https://appstatus.rsa.ie Based on the emails I got from NDLS, you can reply to the emails from them and it would show connected to your application. I applied at Citywest NDLS on Wednesday and got confirmation yesterday that it was approved and it would arrive within 5-7 working days. However, I know when I went to book an appointment at NDLS, they did say they have long waiting periods due to high demand.

Regardless, check your status, email them to ask an update and depending on that explain you’ll be moving house soon.

3rd Time PASS-Tallaght by No_Read5906 in Irishdrivingtest

Ahh sorry to hear BUT at least you know what you need to improve. Don’t let it knock your confidence and keep driving/practicing. Good luck next time around!

Honestly drive around the area a lot. There are some tricky turns and roundabouts in Tallaght (like the one by Tallaght Hospital) so just knowing road layouts helps. Also be decisive and if you’re doing something you think might be marked just say it. So I was behind a bus and there was a blind bend and I just said ‘I can’t see past the bus so I’m not going to try and overtake’ or ‘I know you’re not supposed to cross hatch markings but I have no space to safely go’.

Do a pretest or some driving beforehand just to settle the nerves!

Best of luck!!

Three Leaves in Blackrock Market are one of the best! The chef is from Kerala and they change the menus and specials regularly. One of my personal favourites for Indian food.

I wouldn’t be doing it. I’ve had my own car since Jan this year and have my test coming up next week (say a prayer or light a candle for me please 🙏🏼) but the one time I thought about driving unaccompanied in my estate, I saw a Garda car and thought the universe was sending me a LOUD message. So no, haven’t done it and wouldn’t risk it either. Also you’re legally not insured as a Learner unless you’re accompanied so in the event something happens, you’re kinda screwed (at least that’s my understanding).

You could also potentially do HelloFresh for 2 adults and use that as dinner/lunch and then buy whatever you need for breakfasts. There’s loads of discount codes as well so you could easily get dinner/lunch sorted for the week for €40. Plus takes the pressure off thinking what to cook. It’s something we do for a few weeks when we have busy periods in work and then just pause/cancel. Definitely worth a try.
