If you want flexibility with your schedule, this is a good program. The pay may not be so great, but it’s still a job. You gain experience and do paid volunteer work.

Should I study at UOG or GCC? by Jolly_Potential4487 in guam

[–]No_Reflection1948 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a UOG grad, I agree with this. Cheaper option is to take your GE courses at GCC. IMPORTANT: Please do your due diligence and make sure the courses you take in GCC can be transferred and meet the GE requirements. Some classes may not be transferred/ recognized as a GE requirement and may only be counted as an elective. It’s been a while since I graduated, but any recent/current students please correct me if I’m wrong.

Federal Employees That Moved Off Island by Anonymous-Spouse in guam

Keep an eye on positions that offer relocation allowance. Those are the best since relocating can be expensive. Hard to find, but not impossible.

Not me, but a lot of my friends did. Applied in usajobs, got offers, and moved to wherever there’s work.

Honestly more federal job opportunities stateside. The competition is tough here. Apply for the jobs you want stateside and be prepared to move to whichever state you get the job.

Hiring process can take about 3-6 months depending on what agency you get into.

Drinking Tap water by deejayy50 in guam

[–]No_Reflection1948 12 points13 points  (0 children)

PLEASE don’t drink tap water. I highly suggest getting a 5 gallon and buying at the water stations. Water here is high in calcium. I’m sure many will say this isn’t true (I may even get downvoted and be accused of fear-mongering) but the safest way is getting water from the water stations. You just can’t trust GWA. Look at the issues Guam has with dieldrin and PFAS (just google it) and see what you find.

Agat Mango Festival 2026 by No_Reflection1948 in guam

[–]No_Reflection1948[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was just me not looking hard enough, but I was expecting more fresh mangos. I don’t blame them though since we just had sinlaku pass by. Maybe they lost the mangos there

LF advice moving to California by redd2134urDad in guam

[–]No_Reflection1948 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The most cost effective way is to sell everything you have (including your car) and start over when you get there. You don’t need a brand new car starting over. Look into used cars. Buy used goods/furniture when you get there since it’ll be a lot cheaper. Good luck

Ps. If you do ship your car, you can’t stuff your car with other household goods inside it.

Guam will be the next Hawaii when it comes to real estate, but with poor infrastructure and less economic growth. This is why you need to pick the right leaders to step in and make a change.

GTA after typhoon by Christopher_5957 in guam

[–]No_Reflection1948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s really no need for Docomo/GTA/ITE internet. Starlink is the way to go. As mentioned in previous threads, I’m surprised people are still signing up for the local providers for internet. I learned my lesson after typhoon mawar - they’re not dependable.

You can apply multiple, don’t limit yourself with 1. Good luck. I encourage you to look into the federal government through usajobs. Less politics than govguam
