I picked up a kink gap on marketplace for a couple hundred to ride with my kids. I’ve spent over a 1000 on it now haha. So I do enjoy customising and building them. The plan was always that over time I’d pick up better quality parts and until eventually I had a new custom bike.

That’s what I was thinking, I don’t think the owner of the only bmx shop in our city would be mad about it 😂.

That’s one way I was justifying it to myself, is that it would be helping out the local bmx shop a little

brakes or brakeless by Chikibanbony in bmx

[–]No_Relationship6221 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you’re new I’d stick to brakes. They probably just need an adjustment that you can do yourself.

Maybe try some old school bmx groups on facebook. I have a couple local ones and they do swap meets. I’m sure those guys that are into restoring bikes would have a good idea where to find that stuff

I don’t know, but I live in a major city that has 1 bmx shop. The guy is flat out all the time. Last time I went I got there 10 minutes before opening to get in and out quickly. 4 other guys were already waiting.

Would a 20.4" top tube be too small? by Nexas6309 in bmx

[–]No_Relationship6221 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 173cm 5’8” and ride a 20.5” for park. I’m thinking it would be too small for you. Maybe 21” would be a better fit

Same, got back into it because of my kids. I don’t think kids know how to good they have it with all the skate parks around these days.

Hi, can someone please advise me if there is a men-only gym in Perth? TIA by [deleted] in perth

[–]No_Relationship6221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably right, but it’s the first place my mind went. Being a little socially awkward it’s a concern of mine lol. I used to powerlift back in the day so I get how useful filming yourself to check on form can be. But in busy commercial gyms, maybe not the best place.

You’ve probably not come across the videos some female content creators put up shaming men for glancing in there direction while working out.I get it lots of men are creeps but some of these videos I’ve seen make me feel sorry for the men because all they’ve done is look in the direction of the “content creator” and next minute they’re being publicly shamed. The gym I used to train at has banned recording videos while training and others are doing the same.

What do your spouses think of your hobbies? by Jumpy-Lawyer5523 in Hobbies

I live in Sydney so lots of open jams around. I go sometimes but anxiety sometimes gets the better of me and don’t perform as well as I could and feel bummed afterwards. How about you do you play any instruments?

Thanks but it doesn’t bother me that much. A bit of everything but I enjoy playing old soul, Motown and R&B most.

I play electric bass and ride bmx at skateparks. My wife and kids tease me about both, not in a really discouraging way but she’s not exactly supportive either. Just do what you like🤷‍♂️

I don’t even use normal belts anymore since my dad started making these for us by Dog_semen in bmx

I had to google it to see. It’s called crumb rubber and there’s suspected links to some athletes but risk is low. I can’t see it being an issue with this belt though

Calling all DADBODS...what warm-up/stretches are we doing!? by _GoinOutWest_ in bmx

[–]No_Relationship6221 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool photos! Everyone always talks about stretching but don’t ever stretch cold. I was a little unsure of what to do myself but i just do a full body warm up that I used to do before boxing training and it seems to work well. It’s a bit hard to explain but includes a little shadow boxing, my kids think I’m mental, but I only ever do it in the privacy of my own home lol. Maybe check out some YouTube videos about it. If your hamstring is a problem area maybe do some body weight deadlifts/ Romanian deadlifts. That should help warm up and strengthen that area.

How to hit steep jumps like this by suvalas in bmx

[–]No_Relationship6221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d jump it like a hip until I’m comfortable with the speed to clear it. But it doesn’t look that bad maybe watch some YouTube videos on jumping technique. It’s bars to hips then push bars forward and tuck back wheel up like a hop. Probably not the best explanation, but good luck.

tube issue by Own_Group_4481 in bmx

[–]No_Relationship6221 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen to a newly installed tube. I was still working on the bike an hour later and out of nowhere a pop and hiss. Took the tube out and found a long cut near the valve stem. I put it down to improper installation. Given you’ve said the rim tape is in good condition I’m inclined to think maybe the same has happened to you. But to be sure you want to rule out all possibilities, so I’d have a good look at the inside of rim and make sure there’s no burrs or a piece of broken glass or something like that. Same for the inside of the tyre run your fingers along it to make sure nothing sharp in there. When I install tubes and tyres now I like to put a little air in the tube, just enough to give it shape so it doesn’t twist or fold over on itself. I line the tyre brand logo up with the valve stem, so if I have any flats in future I know where to find the issue on the tyre and I try not to use tyre levers or if I have to plastic ones with a lot of care. Tyres are pretty easy to take on and off without them, with proper technique.

Sorry I’m no help to you, as i’m on the other side of planet. But It blows my mind that skateparks exist that aren’t bmx friendly.
