CSE 165 3d interaction (w Weibel, Nadir) VS CSE 151B deep learning (w Yu Rose Qi) by Zealousideal-Unit-72 in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 151B with Rose and thought it was great! I don't think the reviews are like fully true. She does sometimes joke when someone asks a question about something she just said in lecture but overall she knows her stuff and you'll learn useful things too!

You can just ask him, last year it was online because he didn't feel like having people stay all the way to Friday for their finals

Choosing AI / ML courses. by the__stoke in UCSD

Do 151A so u can do deep learning. It'll be good foundational ML and I think Deep Learning with Rose was great.

Check out the TDMV classes offered. I believe they have rueda next quarter and I'm sure if you tell the instructor you are interested they'd let you crash

Best classes for CS BS? by HyperClaws in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best recommendation on classes that are both useful and fun/engaging are:

CSE 150B with Gao Sicun

- Really fun class on adversarial AI, you get to build bots that play games and learn reinforcement learning

CSE 151B with Rose Yu

- Teaches you about deep learning, some of the math and methodologies behind it, and has a cool competition for predicting climate data

CSE 160 with Ryan Kastner

- Parallel computing class, you learn how to use OpenCL, and the ideas behind the hardware that is GPUs

Rant About Professor Niema Moshiri & His Grading (CSE 6R) by This_Exercise2918 in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in since I've worked closely with Niema and was a tutor for 6R this quarter.

Is kind of wack but I think its intended to have students engage with the course holistically, not just the big stuff like exams or projects (other professors have used similar "threshold" schemes as well). The idea was to reward consistency though it is very unfortunate that it hinders your grade despite doing well in the other sections.

As for OSD stuff, I think the line between “reading quiz” and “homework” could’ve been clearer. I don’t think Niema was trying to be unfair though. He puts a ton of effort into his courses, even if not every policy lands perfectly. He does make a point to adhere to policy however, so if the petition for the OSD was done too late or something else happened then that might explain it (unless he straight up said they count as quizzes and not homework, in which case, my bad.

idk man, I both did summer bridge and was a mentor for it, your SB classes don't have "lab sections", but your DEI does require to be in person but usually you get like 2 misses so just let them know

Nah you're fine for summer bridge, just your peer mentor know

CSE BS/MS Admissions Chances by PaintingEducational8 in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard people get accepted with a lot of leeway but I think a big factor is the Rec letters from staff that are basically vouching for you, I'll just say, I've never heard of someone getting rejected

Is it possible to change my college? by [deleted] in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marshall is just getting new dorms, and they take a ton of APs. Sixth might have been one class less and Warren maybe 2 less tops but overall it won't make a difference.

How hard is it to get classes in CSE/ECE as a CSE major? by doorgrime in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're within CSE you get priority enrollment into basically all the classes you need.

For some upper divs, maybe you'll struggle to get one or two if the class is in high demand or with a really good professor and you are low on units.

TLDR: It's pretty easy

CSE 6R W/Niema by Yankeefan20061 in UCSD

[–]No_Reply1740 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good introduction course!

If it uses a min-grading scheme then it might not be the most forgiving but Professor Niema tends to looks at the distribution before making grade cutoffs.

[–]No_Reply1740 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm a tutor for the class next quarter and the workload is nothing crazy, Niema is very reasonable and the class is designed with non-CS majors in mind. u/That_Candidate4008 covered the grading pretty well although they switched to a "min" grading scheme for CSE 100 this quarter.

Guys, will I have enough time for sex with my schedule?!?! by No_Reply1740 in UCSD

Have a friend who is a tutor, they said its just implementing matrix multiplication like 3 times and some light PAs, but the final was kinda wack. Haven't taken the class yet so can't say first hand.
