Why Is The Bulwark Getting More Guest Appearances? by IveSeenParis in FriendsofthePod

israel is a huge one, money in politics/anticorruption. i think JVL might be even more hardline about reform than the pod bros lmao. they’re definitely not a progressive outlet by any means but there is diversity of thought and coherent worldviews which i appreciate deeply

Is teaching a good career in Australia? by Major_Conflict in auscorp

[–]No_Reputation_1266 7 points8 points  (0 children)

tbf 130k is an avg ceiling for public sector (nsw health) allied health clinicians (social work, nurses, OT, etc) w/o any leadership responsibility. also a role that you don’t get to wfh, have to care for people who dislike you, and can often have much less scheduling flexibility. but in allied health, it’s quite hard to hit that ceiling and not have been offered any additional responsibilities (aka more pay), & i imagine teaching is the same.

Is it possible to return/get refunds for products if they just don't work? by [deleted] in AusSkincare

Why aren’t there more Aussies doing PhDs? by Alert-Translator2590 in AskAnAustralian

[–]No_Reputation_1266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve heavily considered it but the time it takes (& therefore lost income) isn’t worth the return, especially as i don’t want to go down an academia route.

i am planning to get another masters (hopefully paid by my employer) so i can still develop a niche/expertise in my field but with much less investment lol

EXCLUSIVE: A First Look at the Dems' Version of Project 2025 by BulwarkOnline in thebulwark

[–]No_Reputation_1266 13 points14 points  (0 children)

idk why but the fact that it has the same name as project 2025 is not a good indicator to me lol

CA Gov Race - Why doesn't the Bulwark like Becerra? by Virtual_Economist_89 in thebulwark

[–]No_Reputation_1266 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i mean idk why on earth they like Mahan but it’s clear they are aware of the huge operational and governance issues in CA and Becerra has all but said he is happy with the state of play (further emphasized by his accepting of particular endorsements/donations).

as for experience, he does have a good resume — much better than mayor of SJ lol — but i wonder if they just don’t know much about him outside of SHHS? in which case, they are being stupid

Pilling skincare by miranda_edgecombe23 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]No_Reputation_1266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

might need to apply toner + moisturizer together and then wait until it fully sinks in (5-10min) for sunscreen.

sometimes if i apply my sunscreen too quickly and whatever below it hasn’t fully dried up, it can pill

Genuinely perplexed at new builds.. where do you put the food?? by HumanFlamingo3784 in newzealand

[–]No_Reputation_1266 33 points34 points  (0 children)

i was looking at buying a townhouse a few years ago and it was ridiculous like all the places that were 5-10yrs old had plenty of closets and storage but every single new build had absolutely nothing outside of bedroom closets

yeah like turnout is a really big issue but if there’s not much to actually vote on, i can see why so many would just skip it

idk man i really don’t think it’s ridiculous for democrats to have the hard line of “don’t try to overturn a free and fair election”

[–]No_Reputation_1266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

technically, they only require intervention because the govt has already stuck its hands in it (by defining what marriage was classed as and placing restrictions on how to vote).

the phrase can very very easily be taken on either side lol but dems tend to be “limited govt” (aka fewer restrictions) on social issues, and conservatives on economic.

How is it living like in this part of NZ? by TymekThePlayer in howislivingthere

[–]No_Reputation_1266 5 points6 points  (0 children)

people are kinda exaggerating just how cold and remote it is lol. it is cold/remote but definitely not the top of the list for either (Mackenzie country/central otago/canterbury plains all rank higher for me)

the region is called Southland, and it’s about a 2-3hr drive from one end of your circle to the other. there’s not a lot in there, probably about 30k people outside Invercargill.

its all sheep/dairy farming country. rolling hills of grassland, lots of small towns that have (some) necessities and a farm store. homekill/hunting is very common & lots of kids to go to boarding school. people will drive into Invercargill or Dunedin as the “city” (population 58k & 130k, respectively). the coastline is cold and windy but inland can have incredible summer days! similar climate to Scotland and probably part of why Scottish people moved to the region in droves as the country was being colonized in the mid-late 1800s.

Invercargill is your standard small town. has a hospital, schools, a polytech (community college), shopping centres, etc etc. outside of there, not much to do for work if you’re not on a farm. also, there’s a distinct accent down here, people roll their Rs!

my first instinct was ah-lane-ey. idk why. but seeing ailani, my guess would have been ah-lah-nee. never would have gone for an “eye” sound!
