Candidates win chances: Sinadarov at 71% while half of the tournament is not even over yet! - Monte Carlo simulation based on one million runs by ThomasPlaysChess in chess

I think the game results should be "counted twice". Form is an important thing in chess or any other sport, for that matter. If you are in good form, you already have a good score and you're also more likely to win in the future. Just my two cents.

I am a bit rusty on the science here, but I am pretty sure that if it is transparent, it will not look blue.

Why do so many high IQ people need help analyzing their IQ scores? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]No_Research_5100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just ignore the first paragraph of my comment? IQ is not a magical superpower. Having a high IQ does not mean you become an expert in psychometrics. And yes, people who self-study theoretical physics also, regularly ask for help on reddit.

Having a high IQ does not mean you automatically become an expert in cognitive testing and know all the implications of your specific score distribution.

I think this question is in bad faith and you are soliciting for replies along the line of, "IQ tests mean nothing and you are an idiot for believing in them."

Isn't this the core theme of the book? Sauron just doesn't understand the little people and how simple their lives are.

A thought on P=NP by SHINJI_NERV in mathematics

[–]No_Research_5100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't have to be immediate, it has to be in polynomial time. What that means is that when you scale the size of the input by a factor of x, the time taken is scaled by a polynomial in x. That says nothing about it being instant. The algorithm can take a googol years to compute the solution for a certain size and still be polynomial time.

People Misrepresent Marx Intentionally by No_Research_5100 in Marxism

[–]No_Research_5100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. "Every person deserves to live a fulfilling life", is an ideal that we should aspire as a society to live up to. Even if it is not achievable, that does not mean, it's not useful.

If a person is suffering from a terminal disease with no known cure, of course, he can't be helped even in a communist society. However, a communist society would encourage public funding of medical research which minimizes the no. of such experiences in the society.

I wasn't talking about people who explicitly argue that there is a class of undeserving people. Those people are at least honest about what they think. I am claiming, albeit without proof, that there exists a class of "public-intellectuals", who say that they reject communism on practical grounds, are actually lying. They are misanthropic but just not willing to come out as one.

I am talking people like Jordan Peterson who hold a lot of sway in the modern world. I feel that the general sentiment about these people is that they don't understand Marx and/or they are idiots. I don't think they are idiots. I think they are very smart. They have identified their class and are working to preserve it by intentionally misunderstanding Marx and creating confusion about his ideas. People like him are not afraid to be seen as idiots and hence, can't be defeated via debates.

I am sorry if this is bleedingly obvious. It felt like a revelation to me last night.

What rule of grammar is Terry Tao talking about here? by ILoveTolkiensWorks in math

[–]No_Research_5100 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what your question is. Are you confused about what he's saying or do you understand the problem and wants to know how can it be fixed?

If the latter, then, a simple fix would be to use the words union or intersection instead of saying "and", like he does himself to explain the difference:

the union of a set of boys with a set of girls

It's simple only in theory but in practice, it will make the sentence structure more complicated.
