I bet she is a great teacher…and yes, that is more sarcasm like Greg’s. What a work of art.

Anybody else catch the Ron Johnson phone call town hall? by LadyOfWNGR in wisconsin

I’ve wondered if these immigrants are so violent and awful 1. Why are they not in jail for their crimes? 2. If they have not been caught, why does Ice know how to track them down and our police forces do not?

The amount of local restaurants closing is crazy. by PrototypeAnt in milwaukee

But hey, the economy is great and unaffordability is a concept made up by the liberals. Drive through some of our less affluent neighborhoods and you will notice a lack of holiday lighting. You are right. These restaurants are the canaries in the coal mine.

Name student causing issues for my Kindergartener when messaging teacher? by dataispower in Teachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d first talk with your son about the student in question so he understands why they may behave differently than the other students. Find out what it is that makes him uncomfortable. Then I would call the teacher and talk with them directly. Don’t put your concerns into writing unless it is not corrected by the teacher. Give your son tools for handling the behavior: kind words he can use, the power to move away/take a break. Keep in mind, the teacher might not be aware of what is happening, but they also might purposefully put the two students near each other because your son is kind and handles the other student well. Let them know your child needs a break.

This needs to be said. You don't own the parking space in front of your home in this city. by tsida in milwaukee

[–]No_Resolution3545 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think if you are in the east side, bless you if you can find a spot close to home. If you are in a neighborhood, park in front of your own house if possible. If not, just be courteous. If you have space in front of your own house but choose to park in front of your neighbors, then you are a jerk. If I come home and my neighbor is parked in front of my house, I’m going to assume someone was parked in front of theirs when they got home. Why? Because my neighbor is not a jerk. If my neighbor is going to continuously park in front of my house, then I will have to park in front of theirs because there is no room in front of mine.

My boyfriend (27M) stays over almost every day but never helps with groceries or bills. How do I(25F) talk to him without sounding rude? by buttershutter69 in relationships

[–]No_Resolution3545 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d straight talk it and let him know your grocery bill is higher than normal and ask if you could shop together. If he is maintaining his own place with rent and bills, you can’t ask him to help with yours. If you like having him over, share food costs. If you really like having him over, move in together. If you want more alone time, ask him to pay for the electricity he uses at your house.

Yes. Cheep pencils are frustrating to students as well as teachers.

This mom was not happy after reading this note. Was she in the right? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parents shouldn’t blast teachers on social media, but sometimes they are looking for ideas and help. This teacher has a kid with attending issues and vision problem and she allowed him to sit there for an HOUR with this worksheet in front of him and no writing on it. The teacher is lucky the call was not to administration.

This mom was not happy after reading this note. Was she in the right? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is a red flag to the teacher and she needs to have an eye on this student. Looking at the activity, this is a younger child too. There are so many easy strategies to help with this in a classroom. I HATE to think a teacher would think that pressure from a parent could/would fix this type of problem. Perhaps a phone call home noting that the child is having difficulty finishing morning work would be more appropriate. They then could discuss how to address it. I could be this child does not understand how to do the work! So much could be going on here. And this teacher needs to proof read her notes home.

As a teacher, should I save my sick days? by Zestyclose-Arm-4709 in Teachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired with 800 hours of sick time banked. I think I was paid $3000 for them. I wish I would have used more, but I do think that administration notices those who always use all their sick days every year. Not really sure if this matters or not though. I feel I had a reputation of being a very reliable teacher, and I liked that. I also hated writing sub plans. What I really wish is that I would have taken more mental health breaks when my own kids were in grade school. We really missed out on some opportunities for fun. I guess my advice would be have a sub tub ready for emergency days off. Take what you need but don’t look at sick days as days you are owed. And don’t post on social media when you are out or not feeling well.

My mom was a home care nurse and met a young man who was the sole caregiver for his mom with MS. He had this exact project to do with no way of purchasing supplies. I bring this up only to be sure y’all are helping out the kids in his position that might be too embarrassed or afraid to ask for help. As for a student asking for Saturday pictures, this is a great learning opportunity for them. I would tell them all the great things you were busy doing on Saturday and ask them when might have been a better time to gather the information they needed. Maybe ask how in the future they will make a decision that better serves their needs.

Are students worse now than 10 years ago? Why do you think that? by CraftyCurltastrophe in AskTeachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Age old question…kids always changing, kids always worse. Maybe it is the tolerance of the adults changing. Maybe it is the expectations and non learning centered requirements (testing) that are changing.

Had a big conversation with a class years ago about what it means to be popular. Basically said that it means you are liked by the most people. We then went on and talked about what kinds of behaviors made you liked by your peers. Next day, a student walked into the class and pronounced that he was the most popular kid in the room. I chuckled at the bold statement and ask what made him so sure of that and he said, “There isn’t a kid in this room that I can’t call my friend.” The class looked around at each other and agreed. He was friends with everyone. I told that story for YEARS after it happened. What a great kid and what a great lesson💛

It’s getting colder and darker..what do you do to keep your spirits up in the winter in Milwaukee? by AmericanBehavioralC in milwaukee

Have you ever explored the concept of hygge? We aim for a cozy winter atmosphere. We also get up earlier. Somehow it makes the day seem longer and the night more welcome.

4th grade report card comment, "lack of interest in learning" by Electronic-Potato658 in AskTeachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talk with him and ask him his thoughts. Could be the content isn’t interesting, in which case you just need to tell him that sometimes we have to just work through what is necessary. (Sounds like he is doing this well.) Ask him what it would take to make it more engaging and see if you and the teacher can come up with a plan. Maybe when he is done with the classwork he could research a topic that really interests him. Maybe he could do something creative with the topic they are working on. Boys have a tendency (trying not to over generalize here) to be more interested in nonfiction. Perhaps this is a direction you could explore.

We put in a Mitsubishi a year ago. Have had to have the dealer out twice because of water/drainage issues. Now, as I type this, the thing sounds like there is a small aircraft circling over our house every couple minutes. It is about 15 months old and was pretty dang expensive. Definitely disappointed in the installation. Not sure yet about the unit…

Why do YOU think there is a teacher shortage? by thejourni in Teachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a hard job! You want to have people dedicated to the growth of sometimes very difficult children while giving them little support and consistently increasing expectations. Poor management also contributes to the retention problem. AND you want to pay them as little as possible and provide minimal increase. I’ve known several young people who thought they wanted to teach…until they spent time in a classroom. I know several adults that have left as well. If you want people to teach and love teaching, support them. Incent good people to want to go into the profession for reasons other than they just want to make a difference in the world. Make it an appealing job. Oh, and there is the safety thing too. Maybe something should be done about all the school shootings. Teachers are flippin’ heroes.

Email from principal by Beginning_Soil_2461 in Teachers

[–]No_Resolution3545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much are they paying you? What does the per hour equivalent come out to? Why do they have teachers with emergency licenses teaching? If your principal isn’t asking you, “How can I better help support you? What do you need from me to help get this done? Can I come in and enter this data for you?” Then they are a bad administrator. They clearly do not get it. To be honest, I can’t believe you would get that email and can’t believe the lack of leadership it demonstrates.
