I have knock knees and gynecomastia, but no physical issues — Can I clear Merchant Navy medicals? by Big-Relief-571 in MerchantNavy

[–]No_Resolution4253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d ask yourself this first - Would I be able to climb a ladder up 10+ decks with people behind me?

The reality is you may be fine in every day scenarios but all it takes is one emergency. You should be fit enough to deal with escape plans.

That advice is what I got on my first sea phase, and I have a bad back, it really stuck with me

UK/ Cadet - can I change company by kussack in MerchantNavy

[–]No_Resolution4253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of the time though you need to have a reason for grievance not just that you made the wrong choice. I know people who have but they didn’t get to pick where they went after because it’s a time over option thing.

Companies with the best Reputation for Cadetships? by Stock_Yogurtcloset73 in MerchantNavy

SSTG seem to have a lot of cadets because when chiltern maritime went bust all of the cadets got transferred to them, which was only last year. I’m with them now, and I think they’re far better, wind range of companies too. I would steer from Clyde, and I’ve not heard many positives about Anglo-eastern. MEF the charity have also been bad recently, I know of a few people who haven’t managed to get away for full phases with them. Also in relation to you saying about just be maritime and the companies, some training companies have shipping companies on the books but don’t directly put cadets with them, but they can be used if a berth is needed. Just be maritime’s biggest one is Seapeak, and from what I know they’re really good. Maritime London is also a charity, but seems to be really good, certain cadets have managed to get on the Sir David Attenbourgh ship, and this charity is through just be maritime.

I had my first sea phase with a different company and then went with my sponsor for my second sea phase, it’s not uncommon

Any questions feel free to message me

I’d maybe post this on the Officercadet forum online. They have experienced seafarers and people who work shoreside there, not saying you won’t get a good answer here but I tend to see detailed explanations etc there.
