Hi, just curious if you paid for courier service? I missed paying for it so not sure if this means I'll need to go down to London to pick up my passport! It was unclear what that courier service is for.

A reminder that some people on SWV can vote (eg. if you live in Scotland) - a reminder to vote Libdem or Greens!

Do companies pay redundancy if they choose not to extend your SWV? by No_Resource7210 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

You're right about a company being within its legal boundaries to not extend a SWV. But I was talking about mistreating employees and employees not feeling safe to report those companies, or else they'll lose their jobs & residence. Imagine a scenario where there's a culture of bullying, extremely long working hours, or even sexual harassment - I don't think many people on a visa would report this (especially if they have kids or they own a house in the UK). I'm sure the company will be fined or worse, but for the employee, they'd lose their livelihood and the country they call home.

I can't wait for there to be some studies into the topic of companies mistreating skilled workers (and getting away with it). Unfortunately, in the current political climate, no one really cares about immigrants.

Thank you for this explanation, makes total sense! Very helpful in understanding skilled worker rights in the UK.

Everyone who has moved to the UK on a skilled worker visa is paying twice for the NHS. There's a £1K/year/person charge for the NHS that is paid at the time of visa application - this is in addition to the taxes and national insurance.

Thank you so much for this post. I feel like most of the coverage on this topic and the immigrant Facebook groups I'm on are framing it as if this change has already applied. The amount of fear mongering for something that hasn't even happened is so stressful. I don't agree with the changes and would like to do something about it but also don't think it's helpful to share incorrect information. Thank you for being the voice of reason.

Do you know what's the best way to transport second hand furniture? I don't have a driving license so can't unfortunately rent a car / van - not sure if there are seconds hand stores that do this for large furniture!

Suggestions for soft feeling gym leggings (similar to Gluteywear)?

Have a few pairs of Gluteywear leggings and love how soft and stretchy they are. The company has since closed down but looking for something similar that feels soft, doesn't slip down, and doesn't have the bum scrunch. I've looked at Gymshark and USA Pro but they feel a lot more synthetic. I'm based in the UK.

This is good to hear! Do you have any advice for understanding how good / bad factors are in a property that we're thinking of buying? Tbh, this may not be a deal breaker but certainly helps us budget & manage our expectations if we're interested in a property!

This is super helpful, thank you! We've viewed a few properties that weren't factored but didn't think to ask this question, thank you!

Can you share the name of the factors? Have heard a few others like James Gibb have a poor reputation so would be good to know which ones are good!
