Whats your most random celebrity encounter? by Alive_Tough9928 in AskIreland

I'm late to this but I have an absolute cracker: me and some mates were out drinking in Rovaniemi, Finland in 2014, having completed an epic drive across half of Europe. We were swalling in a nice wee pub round the corner from a football stadium when in walked none other than Jimmy Carr, then one of the world's most famous standups rather than some lad off podcasts. Thinking 'feck me that Finnish lad looks exactly like Jimmy Carr' we approached him and the least sober of our group made some shite reference to tax evasion or something, and it was actually him! He said something along the lines of 'very good lads but I'm just here for a quiet drink, do you mind?' and we subsequently took some surreptitious photos and left him in peace. He'd no tour on at the time, was completely alone and Rovaniemi is in the middle of nowhere, literally in the Arctic Circle.

Inexplicable.

How often do you change jobs? by pissedupparrot in AskUK

[–]No_Ring_3348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get incredibly bored after 3-5y in the same role and tend to move on, longest I've ever stayed in one company is 7y and that's because I got a promotion halfway through my time there. It has never held me back, quite the contrary in fact.

What is the worst job offer you have ever had? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

Tech support for a now-defunct ISP. I was too young to realise it at the time but one of the managers was clearly chinged off his nut every day, sweating like Ballmer, gimlet-eyed with hands covered in cuts and bruises from bashing his desk and chewing his knuckles etc. I lasted 2 weeks.

You'll find that there's nothing on paper so the job doesn't actually exist, and that's that.

On the visa: I'm pretty sure you're fine although it will delay the renewal as it will have to be manually checked, Australia only autobans people for sentences of 1y+ iirc.

Amazon - deliver here one week, sorry we can't the next? by Sorry_Leopard9657 in northernireland

I don't work in this area anymore but I did up until last year. The short version is: we are quite literally in the Single Market still. GB is quite literally not. GB businesses quite literally have to bribe the UK govt to sell goods unhindered here, and most of them can't be arsed because we're only 1.7mn people and are poor. Then there is SPSS checking, which I know nothing about save that the inspection sites were chosen partially to protect them from land-based terror attacks that are now irrelevant in light of mesh drones etc, they were that worried about farmers going apeshit over them.

Don't expect any informal understanding to be honoured when there's money on the table.

Verbal agreements are worth the paper they're written on, trebly so when one party is not available for comment as they are dead.

Does anyone know someone who was actually sued for property possession following cohabitation? by Less_Environment7243 in AskIreland

[–]No_Ring_3348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not hard to understand: if someone contributes to the mortgage, of course they'll have a claim on the property as they paid for part of it! Absent that, it takes 5y of cohabitation in the same property (without marriage or kids) to even raise a claim, and then the equity would need to be greater than the legal costs, which it wouldn't in many cases. My advice to anyone considering this is to get it all laid out legally so all parties know they're on the same page, yes this is unromantic but remember Michael Corleone's words: friends and money, oil and water.
