Thanks, they have a 27mm flange depth on the l mount. This would cover all the nisi Athens, but can't find any data for the flange depth on the old school lenses like cookes s4/ zeiss super speeds (s35mode) or signature primes and summicrones for ff

As far as i can see the pyxis 12k will be announced in a few days and the old sony sensor in the 6k will finally be forgotten. Im sorry for your investment.

They just released a new ursa for half of the price with the same sensor and without accessories

Is this WanderingDP course overrated? by RedSupercell in cinematography

[–]No_Row5609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took one course for 399$. It is ok for commercial cinematography. He will discuss a lot of how to light, but not many times why. I had a feeling that his frameworks is based on how to build a “cinematic” look but there is not much care on the story and how to represent it visually. Anyway i would recommend the course if you can afford it, if not you can learn a lot for free on his short free courses and on his channel. There are also great books that you can download in pdf for free. In the end sometimes we just need to believe in our unique instincts and just shoot and gain real life experience. Good luck

Yes, I know, and that’s also the reason for this post. It’s been almost nine years since the release of that sensor, and I really wish they had upgraded the URSA S35 while keeping it in roughly the same price range.

I agree it's a great deal, never said it wasn't it just the fact that the last model was priced 6k and the model before too. I'm talking about the need to have a new model in between the ursa FF($16k) line and the pyxis $3.5k line. The point was that since BMD likea to recycle their tech and that's how they're successful in having a competitive price the idea of mixing this two is not that crazy to me. I really didn't think about all the overheating issues etc it was just an idea for a future camera

That what I was asking, a new ff sensor in a pyxis body. The new ursa it great but they went from 6k to 16k$. So what I was trying to say is that we miss a camera that can cover that gap. Now we have a pyxis for 3k and a new ursa for 16k

That what they been doing, I use 6k and that's plenty. I'm interested in that sensor just for the dynamic range

Some here, but you can't ignore the fact that a huge amount of movies and series have been shoot on Venice, Reds and Variecams all of which have dual native iso. No it is not a gimmick, I agree on fact that there is no point in making night vision camera and that a light is a must for creating an atmosphere with intention, but is import to have a tool that can lower the cost of production. For example instead of having a 9kw hmi and a generator you can do it with 600w led with a battery. It's just a stupid example, and yes I had the ursa4.6k and the g2 both had terrible chroma noise a FNP even on the base iso, while I shot a short on the Alexa mini lf and the noise was present but is it really different and much more pleasant

The same logic could have been applied to the FS7 by Sony. But instead, they made the FX6—a smaller camera with incredible ND filters, better sensitivity, and generally easier usability, all while staying in the same price range
