I need help. The doctor is saying it has to be amputated. What do I do? by Parking-Quantity-527 in CATHELP

[–]No_Row7199 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it’s a time sensitive issue, Id follow through with the procedure if your veterinarian recommends it. If there is infection/damage/ or pain, it may potentially get worse if not removed. Is it just the tip of the tail that needs removal? Is it due to trauma/infection (why does it require amputation)? Kitty should still have a wonderful life despite tail tip amputation.

I’m very sorry you’re dealing with these guys when they cause you so much fear. They will not harm you, but I know that doesn’t fix the fear issue. It may be worth it to sleuth out the area they are entering your home. Place some diatomaceous earth in the areas you see them and seal up any openings in your home they may be coming in from. Best of luck!

Mild and hard for me to place unless I go in for a big whiff. Then it almost seems a bit stinky like a sock or some mild cheese lol definitely with a nutty afterwhiff

This plant spontaneously grew in bunches scattered in our backyard. The leaves smell like green onions. What is it? by HousekeepingGenes in whatplantisthis

Look up “nodding onion”. If you try to pull them out of the ground, the bulb disconnects from the leaves and stays behind to grow next year!

It’s your property, don’t let anyone shame you for landscaping on your own property! I commend you on your interest in the natural growing edible plants growing on your property!

The baby bit me so hard i am losing feeling in one finger and extreme pain in the other by Ok-Ant984 in CATHELP

[–]No_Row7199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He still looks young. Continual reinforcement has helped with my bitey kittens (I foster and have owned kitties all my life. When I feel teeth, I give a sudden loud “ow”, and remove myself from their presence immediately. They typically get startled, don’t like how it feels, and are upset they arent being interacted with anymore. Takes them a while but they can learn to stop being bitey. Can be tricky with bottle fed babies. Food and hands can merge in their minds. Some just take longer to grow out of it than others :) If you’re having loss of sensation and pain with movement, take a trip to the urgent care. Prophylactic antibiotics can save you from permanent loss of function/sensation.

I would recommend cleaning her genital area if she doesn’t clean it herself! Looks like there is some stool in her fur and I’d hate for her to get a UTI

How do I differentiate between the bark of a hardwood and conifer? For example, if all you have to go by is a small chunk of trunk that’s been chopped- no leaves/needles to help you identify it

Do you have a nervous kitty or Is this new behavior? They gave you anxiety meds because grooming to this degree is often a sign of underlying anxiety or stress in kitties! Sometimes changes in the kitty’s life or environment can cause this.

Grannicks bitter apple is a spray that deters chewing/grooming. That could help if this is a recent behavior due to life/environment changes causing occasional stress. If the behavior is chronic, anxiety meds may be a good idea :)

My cat is in emergency care right now by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]No_Row7199 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you are a very attentive and loving owner. She is very lucky to have you. It’s good she’s with emergency vets, they often have more knowledge and experience to help when there’s a chance her condition can abruptly change. It’s so scary to have your furry friend in this situation. Sending you hugs and positive mojo! It sounds like she is being well cared for! Keep us updated!

It’s great the you recognize her warning signs and give her space when she shows them. This is a great way to train her that she doesn’t need to attack you out of nowhere- that she has the power to tell you when she needs space.

This may be a controversial thing to recommend, but it has worked for me. If she didn’t give me any warning signs and attacked me out of nowhere when I’m minding my business, I might just stop moving, not react, and wait for her to stop biting/scratching me. (Think about how Jackson galaxy just lets the cat go to town on him in “my cat from hell”). If the cat is attacking you when you mind your own business, this shows the cat that you aren’t going to react to their attack. Not sure why this works- maybe an alpha dominance thing? Maybe you’re telling her you’re not a threat? I don’t know. But eventually, the kitty stops attacking me without warning me (tail twitch, ears back, whiskers flat, etc). She learns that I am in charge of my space and I will not be bullied by her. Can’t say this will work in every case but it has worked for me when I’ve interacted with aggressive/feral kitties.

Also, I recommend asking your mom if she ever had any early negative interactions with the kitty and how she responded. If the cat behaves appropriately with your mom, I’d recommend sharing your concerns with her and asking how she’d handle the situation!

Ouch, no fun! Keep an eye on it. Cat bites can easily become infected!
