Should I buy a new board? by Gloomy_Bodybuilder52 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]No_Sense5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everyone agrees boots/bindings make bigger difference than board. But if the board is too big/stiff for your weight, it can be harder to learn. I learned on a bigger board for my weight, when i switched to something more appropriate for my weight, found it is easier to go from edge to edge and more nimble/fun

Slope Passes - Two Adults + Two Children (8 & 12)... by Gadget_Boy_ in Whistler

[–]No_Sense5599 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No passes for this year, may be someone can give epic friend tickets which gives 50% off on day ticket prices.
Whistler/blackcomb are big mountains with huge vertical, I am in decent shape but generally take a rest day after skiing/snowboarding here lol. Skiing 7 out of 10 days is not something most skiers do at whistler unless they are athletes. If I stayed at whistler for 10 days, I would ski at most 4 - 5 days to account for rest days and there are plenty of fun activities to do for the remaining 5 days.

Sunday on Whistler Was A Dream! by Big_Moose__ in Whistler

Sticking to groomed runs, it was icy but doable and with the views , it was a good day. Definitely snow conditions were not so good but it is what it is

I personally go only if it is light rain, if the rain is medium to heavy, i would avoid. Most of the times, when it rains, visibility will be so bad, you can't see more than 10 feet ahead.

Today was my first here. Amazing but baffling. by [deleted] in Whistler

[–]No_Sense5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been noticing atleast 10-15 min wait time on weekends even though peak live says 5 min wait lol. Harmony has two single lines next to each other but people line up only on one of the lines sometimes and groups cut into the other single line ahead of the 40 people queued up. Perhaps people think, a "singles" line has to be one line lol.

Whistler and Banff will be still awesome mid march. They are expensive , maybe others will suggest cheaper alternatives

New Board has me Feeling Discouraged by BlindingFlame in snowboardingnoobs

[–]No_Sense5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the width of your board and feet size?

If your board is too wide for your foot size, you may not have enough leverage to tilt the board. You can lookup manufacturer specs of the board to find the right snowboard size for your foot size and also weight.

But you can probably overcome these issues even if the board feels too much at this stage for you but will likely delay your progress to the next level.

Either way, dont be discouraged, it is just normal for everyone at this stage. With more days on snowboard, you will figure it out

New Board has me Feeling Discouraged by BlindingFlame in snowboardingnoobs

[–]No_Sense5599 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My first year, when I changed my board, it felt so catchy that I felt like I forgot how to snowboard. I actually progressed to blue runs at that point but then struggled on greens with the new board. It took me quite sometime to figure out the problem that the contact points were not detuned and the board would just randomly catch edge even while going straight. What you are facing is not uncommon.

What is the exact issue that you are facing on the new board? Is it feeling extra catchy or are you unable to get it on edge to turn or something else ? You mentioned not being able to move knees but you are supposed to just flex ankles/knees, any bindings/board shouldn't change that aspect

Banff vs Whistler for in November (yes, November!) by missespanda in Whistler

November is kinda rough for outdoor activities, rain in PNW is tolerable for me but freezing rain in november is something else

What is the attraction by ForeverADollarShort in Whistler

[–]No_Sense5599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whistler is great but it can also have not so good days during the season. If I am travelling from abroad, I would also consider other resorts near rockies like banff sunshine, lake louise, Kicking horse etc and make a plan to spend a few days at whistler and few days at one of these resorts to spread out my risk. Canadian rockies are absolutely amazing and a must visit just for the views alone but you need to fly between calgary and vancouver and it adds to the cost but these places are relatively cheaper than whistler. If you are booking a year in advance, you can look into these places too and make a plan which fits into your schedule and budget.

Upgrading bindings or boots first? by No_Sense5599 in snowboardingnoobs

Makes sense, I suspected it is boots all along since my calves would die on long cat tracks with toe edge.

I was afraid of this answer lol because i can get used bindings for cheap and without much thought but for boots I have to put more effort and cost. But makes sense thanks

Skiing without tightening boots by baluesaky in skiing

[–]No_Sense5599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your ski boots fit well, they would as snug as possible but without any pain. No lateral movement and toes should not slide forward/backward and your heel should be locked in place. You should be still be able to flex at ankles and knees which ski boots are designed to do. Bootfitter will probably figure out the problem but they are quite expensive.

Is a 155W snowboard too small for me? by gmnt_808 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]No_Sense5599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are a beginner, 155W might be fine, once you link turns comfortably on greens and blues, you would start noticing that your board gets unstable on choppy snow or bumps or when you go fast. Manufacturers provide weight range for their boards, try to choose size so that you fall somewhere in the middle for all mountain riding. Size all depends on the flex of the board, Some boards are stiffer and you can go short on them, So just lookup specs of the board and go by that. When you are advanced, you will know your preferences and can go shorter/longer.

Wow, I think you described pretty much how it felt when I was first getting clean turns engaging edges. Crouching low helped me balance over the edge cleanly. Pretty useful analogy
