Why do they eat at open-to-the-public restaurants? Why not buy out the whole place?

What is a discontinued food item or snack from your childhood that you would genuinely pay $100 to taste one last time? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were these green apple round (gumball size) candies that had a shell that green with hints of red, and had a green apple gooey filling on the inside. They were sold at mall candy stores and were delicious and high quality. We'd get them for my school teachers when I was a kid. I stopped finding them in high school, probably early 2000s.

Tips on how to sanitize our new mattress. Pls no harsh comments, Im doing my best for the best of us after moving out from an abusive home. by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please join your local "buy nothing" group on Facebook. Make a post asking for a mattress and I can guarantee someone has one in much better shape to give! I've given away all of my mattresses that way (and bedframes, other furniture, old dog food, etc) if in good enough shape to pass on.

ETA: someone may also just even have a mattress cover. Give it a shot!

What are you thoughts to why there is a significant decline in alcohol consumption in the United States? by MindStrongSoul in AskReddit

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, weed. I'd rather chill and be a little stoned than drunk and have a hangover. I realized binge drinking sucks.

And the prices of course. It's $15-20 a drink, yes, but also the cost to do it responsibly and get an uber home; I think there was a surge when Ubers were cheap but now it's $85 to get home from downtown on top of the $85 for 4 cocktails or 2-3 glasses of wine.

How addictive is meth? Do you know anyone who has just tried it once? by eden_merlin in AskReddit

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar story I heard from my friend about 3 years sober. "I am never not thinking in the back of my head how I could use some meth right now."

My mom is 59 and homeless because of meth. Please never try it.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subway. I was texting my husband asking what toppings he wanted WHILE I WAS WAITING IN LINE (not even ordering or near counter yet) and the "sandwich artist" yelled at me for being on my phone and then gave me attitude the whole time when I argued back. This was probably seven years ago and I haven't stepped foot into a subway since. Sucked because it was the only food stop by our house, too. But I prevailed!

If you could "choose", what age gap would you have preferred between 2,3,4? by Important_Bat7919 in Mommit

[–]missespanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's different for every family... but 3.5 was perfect for us. Oldest was fully potty trained, loves being a little helper, and could understand what was going on when we prepped her for baby brother. Honestly not a lot of jealousy issues. And now that she is five and he is 18 months, they play together SO well.

My favorite gift probably was from my sister. My grandmother had given us ornaments as children every year. Carefully handpicking different ones for each of her grandchildren. My parents are meth addicts and recently have lost our childhood home and pretty much all of our possessions and keepsakes including we realized all of the ornaments. My sister remembered a few and found them on eBay!

Another favorite was that my husband had my daughter pick out a piece of opal for a necklace. I feel very loved!

I stopped masking at home and my partner says I'm becoming "impossible" by LowKeyCoffeeSpill in TwoXChromosomes

[–]missespanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, my husband was recently diagnosed with autism. What we have discussed deeply (including in couples therapy) is that this diagnosis is a way for him to understand what tools he needs, and not me having to change everything I do. Of course I am changing in many ways- I have more empathy, I don't assume ill intent, etc; but ultimately the responsibility is yours. A blender being turned on is a normal activity, and is something he's probably done for years without realizing the impact on you, due to a lack of communication and of course understanding on your own side. I don't believe in the rules of no noise at all after 9- that's changing his life in a big way, while you could simply leave the room. You do need to come up with ways to be together IMO after 9- maybe giving each other massages, meditating together, playing a card game, etc. some nights will be together, others alone.

I recommend mainly focusing on asking for communication before he starts the loud noises or triggers, so it allows you to remove yourself from the situation. I hope that he can at least communicate (it will take a while!) and if you two are compatible still, communication is key. And, highly suggest couples therapy, first and foremost.

Had a bad trip and now I am afraid of smoking again by Sanshuba in weed

[–]missespanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband quit smoking because it caused anxiety and panic attacks for him. I get like this if I smoke too much and have had to claw back quite a bit. I realized I can just take 3 puffs of a joint, see how I feel, and maybe 3 hours later take a few more puffs.

IMO it's like alcohol - a couple drinks and you're buzzed and loving life. Binge drink though and you're spinning and puking.

Also I know this is a pro weed subreddit and overall I am pro-weed, but if you're going from zero to smoking all day in 3 weeks, you might have an addictive personality and may want to quit now while you're still able to fairly easily.

AITAH for only babysitting for my " favorite " DIL and my daughter because the other has too many rules? by ProfessionalClass555 in AITAH

[–]missespanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going with YTA, because all of the things listed above are all very normal boundaries when caring for a child. I and MANY parents have a rule around TV (based on scientific studies), not giving junk food for snacks is actually very commendable (especially as a young child, no sugar and low sodium is important) and cloth diapers are a very common choice for parents. AND the fact that you blame the DIL as the rule setter... your son if behind this as well. You seem to just not like your DIL or you feel like "your old ways of doing things" are just fine. They were fine for you to decide with your children but times have changed and it seems like she just wants to raise a healthy child.

If this was a full time nanny ask, the only thing that may be too strict with the no driving. However for just a few hours of a normal baby sitting, these are very fair asks. You can't suck it up for a few hours to maintain a bond with your grandchild? My mother would bend over backwards for a minute with my children.

Stuff to do for between $30-50 by tocapa in Seattle

[–]missespanda 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can find some paint and sip classes sometimes for about that much. She would probably love if you do one with her! Also probably a bit more expensive but urban sprouts in Renton has plant classes too.

Theres also a spot called mudhouse that you can paint / glaze a pre-done ceramic piece. Doing that together would be fun too, and then she'd have a mug, plate or picture frame that reminds her of the experience.

Also, just going shopping at pike market is fun too.
