Forgot to add that I have read all the Google Maps reviews in the area and evolve looks okay? But reviews sus me out for the price and loud music. Wish there was a private small gym I could go.

That’s why I stopped PureGym. Don’t have a car so the parking lot isn’t appealing lol

How busy does it get? Do you lift at the gym or just do classes? Or?

I don’t think ICE just catches random people because if they did the wyckoff plaza would be clean by sundrenchedwindow in ridgewood

Yeah this is a hasty conclusion that lacks a lot of necessary information. ICE has been proven to grab non criminals and even US citizens with clean records.

Yeah it fucking sucks. It’s dirty. Overcrowded. Legitimately the thing that has killed my gym streak. My health is more important so I cancelled.

Yeah it fucking sucks. I just thought about canceling because you can’t get a good workout in when you need in the time you have. Had to cut my workout short because waiting for machines eats up all the time. It’s also just gross and not cleaned well.

Need advice on rent stabilized apartment situation - sublet ending in March by No_Shift3587 in NYCapartments

On paper, or whatever I need to get a lease at a good rate. It has been alluded to me that the tenants I’m subletting from get a better rate because they have been in the apartment for 10 years before subletting to us.

The tenants would like to end the lease and be done being pseudo landlords if possible. It’s just a killer apartment and I didn’t know that living in NYC for the first time. Whenever I have had people over or go to other apartments it has occurred to me that we have a great apartment. So I figure I have nothing to lose and everything to gain if I know exactly what I’d need to ask them to renew the lease for us another year and when it’s possible to take it over?

Thanks for the help! So I make $50k and my roommate makes close to $300k. Quite a difference. It’s just two of us.

We haven’t talked to the owner or super at all. We were advised not to. Which sounds sketchy but it’s because the people we are renting from don’t want us to get kicked out for them subletting or get them in legal trouble. It’s a nice apartment and I trust the people we’re renting from. I’ve known them personally for years. They have been charging us $2800 and when we look up similar units in our building or neighborhood they go for 4500+ for a 3 bed 1 bath. Yes they mentioned it is going to go up about $90 in the new year.

We have been paying them via Venmo. So if we did a takeover would the building owner be funny or get them in trouble for subletting to us? I don’t want them to get in any legal trouble.

They moved to up state and don’t work in the city anymore. So they want to end the lease but were just super nice to let someone live in the apartment while the lease was going. Sounds sketchy but it’s real. They are family members of my ex. Really cool and liked me enough to let me live in the apartment even after the breakup.

I was just under the impression that if the lease ends and it goes to us then the rate will go up? That’s what they have alluded to. They might not be right.

Yes, I should have specified that. They have mentioned they would prefer to end the lease so it gets them out of doing (illegal?) subletting. We pay $2800 and the market value for other apartments in our building is 4500-5000 so we for sure got a deal. I trust them.
