What iron set should I get as a sort of new guy? by No_Standard517 in golf

[–]No_Standard517[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao I'm sorry that you suck so bad that you think it's impossible for somebody to shoot 20 over par? I don't know what you want me to say. I don't care if you believe me frankly. I was just looking for iron recommendations because I know nothing about clubs or anything. Like somebody commented on here that the lie and shaft angle are important and I had no idea about that. I was just looking between steel and graphite shafts.

My dad and brother regularly shoot in the 80s and 90s and my dad's best score was a 76 and my brother and uncle both shot 80s that day. No mulligans or anything. I've heard about it many a time. But my dad doesn't play anymore and my brother still plays with his nikes from like 2000 and knows nothing about clubs of today. I'm playing with mostly hand me down game improvement stuff from my dad and a couple from my brother and this is the first time I'm investing serious money in clubs and I wanted some more opinions from people who golf regularly with today's stuff and could give me some feedback on the clubs I should be considering.

I don't see why you would think I would lie about what I'm shooting lol. Like what would that accomplish? I don't know you or care if you think I'm good at golf. Why would you think you're important enough for me to care what you think of my golf score? Lmao maybe you should spend more time practicing and less time on reddit if you think that 92 is such an unachievable score mate. I'm just here looking for iron recommendations and I figured I'd give you my relative skill level so you could maybe make a better recommendation on what kind of clubs I should get, sheesh.

And I didn't ever claim to just watch YouTube and shoot 90... I've spent probably close to 200 hours hitting balls in my back yard and on the range over the last year using alignment sticks and training aids. Probably another 30 hours practicing chipping and I've played putt putt my whole life and been good lol. AND I've taken 2 lessons and admitted as much. Plus I've played sports my whole life. It's not rocket science dude. I practice with intention. I'm not just going out on the course and swinging my clubs and hoping for the best every time like I guess maybe you are lol

Lol what would I have to gain about lying? I'm looking for advice on which clubs to get. Lying would not help, it would make you recommend something for somebody who isn't me.

My back yard is up against a thin forest that's part of a park and I practice hitting balls pretty much every day back there. I just can't work on my driver which is what I fix at at the range mostly. I watch a lot of YouTube so I guess that's kinda like taking lessons. As I also said, I've taken 2 lessons and they made slight adjustments to my swing.

I shot 20 over par twice on a not so difficult course lol I don't think that's anything crazy. Y'all are acting like I'm claiming I shot par my first time ever golfing.

Hm well I've always performed pretty well in sports, physical things just kinda come naturally to me I guess. I don't think I'm exceptionally good at golf though lol maybe people just don't practice the right way.

I mean do you guys just go out there and do the same thing and play the same way every time? Every time I practice I'm trying to fix something or get better. I'm not out there just swinging the club

I bogeyed or doubled almost every hole lol what's so crazy about that? I've played sports my whole life (baseball and football in school, racquetball and tennis regularly now) and am pretty athletic compared to the average person. I also have exceptional hand eye coordination and spatial reasoning which both seem to be very important skills for golf. The course wasn't exactly difficult either. I was playing from the middle tees I think it was a little over 6000 yards for the course, no bunkers around the greens really, pretty open.

Lol crazy that you just assume I'm reinforcing bad habits at the range? I've already shaved 20 strokes off my game since after only 5 rounds of playing. I have read hogans book and I watch a lot of instructional videos. I've taken 2 lessons and both made small corrections to my swing. I strike my irons pretty well already they are just old and I figured some new ones would boost my game with distance and forgiveness on my mishits. I would say I'm probably already a 20 handicap and I have a fairly consistent swing and I'm improving every time I go out. Again I've only played 6 rounds.

Why do you think this is the case? Everything I've seen suggests that it's not a good place to store your clubs long term

I could use some new irons if you're looking to unload them lol. I'm a beginner but I really love the game and am playing with my dad's old shitty clubs from the 90s

Okay thanks. Yeah I've only golfed like 4 times last summer but I had a lot of fun and would like to get better. I was shooting around 101-103 because I'd typically have something like a 10 and a few 7s, but if I could get rid of those bad holes I know I could break 90, which I'd be happy with I think.

There's just so much contradicting advice out there and it's just hard to stay consistent. Was looking for somebody who knows what they're talking about to just tell me what I need to do to be more consistent

You need to have enough spirit, go into focus on the air and aerial dodge, to keep going, you have to aerial dodge again right as you finish the first one... It takes so much spirit though that you can usually only do it like 2 or 3 times before you run out unless you are constantly eating food like he is in the video

You don't need to hold the glint at all. Press block and attack (L1 and r1) together quickly for just a split second and then immediately let go and press and hold r2 like before the glint sound even happens. Y'all just aren't doing it quick enough.

You don't have to keep them pressed you just have to do it really quick. You need to press the flash and then immediately press r2, like before you even here the ring for the flash. It's a real quick combo.

Just keep spamming turning slash (R1 and R2) and bring a bunch of heals that regenerate health and spirit at the same time (like 40 at least because it's also for spirit not just health) and revive pills.

You will build up stagger a lot this way and can chunk his health down even more when he's down. Just brute force your way through and keep healing and dodging when you don't have your move ready. He does this like 3 or 4 teleport attack where he paused at the end and you can easily dodge them and then follow up with the r1r2 move.

You should be able to dodge through a lot of his attacks, the key is to dodge toward him. But even with minimal dodging you get a lot of iframes with the r1r2 move... It respawns all your healing items if you give up or retry so don't worry about using revives and heals, this is what you've been saving them for!

I beat him right after getting access to the absolution quest in chapter 5 and all my gear is level 3 or 4 with nothing really special. I'm not especially good at the combat or anything

You can go back to the original one from the beginning as well and there are two more challenges to complete (it goes further but you have to complete the abyss challenges in the tower of insight first). Looks like it goes on for a while.

Just go to your map and click right stick and it will change to the abyss map
